Well, my last show was a friend's band on monday... tomorrow is going to be show overload as I attempt to go to 3 different show in 3 different sides of town:

Phobia in Pomona

Mike Watt Downtown Los Angeles

Alain Johannes (plus Dave Catching spinning records) in Silverlake / Hollywood area

The last Mutants Fest update was like in June and it was pretty vague. I need more of a commitment to the whole thing in order to fly in to see stuff like the ol' Emissions Fest, which Greg always had completely laid out in like November (for a May fest). I'd love to see Clearlight (finally!) but they haven't been included in the last couple of updates. I already drove to Idaho to end up NOT seeing them once (in 2001, same tour they got their shit ripped off and subsequently broke up the band). I still had a hell of a lot of fun in Boise, but no Clearlight show goddammit.

That Little Rock St. Vitus gig is a definitely a gig you call off of work, put your kids in day-care, pets-in-the-kennel gig for. Holy fuck! Legendary!

LAST - I saw Gaza, Eagle Twin and Elitist a week ago. Eagle Twin were fucking great! I mentioned this here already...

NEXT - I think I'm going to venture out to see Jesus Fucking Christ on Thursday, who are Dave Edwardson's (from Neurosis) hard-core punk rock band (much more like the earliest Neurosis recordings). If that falls through then it might be Spindrift the following Thursday and if not that, then Drift of a Curse that Friday.

Quite a bit of good stuff is happening here over the next month or so...

Not sure last show, outside of some dynamite locals for Aleks Shaulov's birthday bash. Am threatening to go to Chicago on the 24th for Shellac/Scrawl.

Last - EHG and others, which I wrote about here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5389 :-)

Next - tomorrow night: Thorun (Chest Rockwell's band), Death of Orion, and The Cosmic Dead (ramo's band I think).
Should be heavy riffy, stoner metally, and repetitive spacey.

Last: Charles Bradley on Monday, very entertaining despite the hipster crowd.

Next: Naam tomorrow.

Last night: supposed to be Thorun, Death of Orion, the Cosmic Dead but Thorun couldn't make it as their guitarist now has a job! Instead we got some other band (conservatoire?) who sounded a bit like they were still getting things together and weren't really a good match for the gig - bit of indy, bit of grunge, bit all over the shop.
Death of Orion were much better than I remember their parent band (Merrick) being, Ramo described them as a bit like earthtone9 which is spot on. More 'metal' than most of the scene stuff but flicked my switch for sure.
The Cosmic Dead were really good, tranced-out space heaviness, bit of Hawkwind, bit of Heads, bit of a doom approach. Nice. Too much top end though, I'm pretty deaf today. Will be keeping an eye open for this lot in future. Plus had a natter with ramo/omar who is a sound feller. Got home and felt like someone had dosed me, maybe they put acid in their beer.

Next - doesn't look like I'm going to CoC tonight, knackered and skint. Will probably be... a friend's gig in London on 8th September.

I should point out that I went to the cool underground gig rather than Baroness last night, and the shame of this is probably what drove them to crash their tour bus today.

Last show was a Thin Lizzy tribute band featuring Gorefest's old lead guitarist. This weekend I'm going to this:

Last: I guess it was Pallbearer, Rwake, RIOTS, Severe Headwound, forgot when...June 16th mayhaps

Next: I dunno exactly, but probably the Mutants of the Monster Fest on Labor Day Weekend. I highly doubt I'll go to all four (?) days but will likely catch a day or two...

Mandatory: St. Vitus, YOB, Weedeater, Rwake, Norska...Sep. 14th. I'm looking forward to this show much more than the above fest actually...

That Yellowstock Fest does look killer- lots of those Euro bands like My Sleeping Karma, Monkey 3, Seven That Spells, Gnod, Glowsun, Baby Woodrose etc etc I'll probably never see in the US. Enjoy!!

Oddly I didn't see a show last night...

LAST- Night before last was Sultan Bathery, a sort of lo-fi garage band from Italy, they were very cool, good vibes, fuzzy vibes, dark vibes. Decent stuff. They played with locals Caves Caverns (space surf) and Blue Rajas (nice female duo).

NEXT- GWAR B-Q which is being held at a local waterpark/lake on Saturday- lots of locals along with GWAR, Strike Anywhere, Ghoul, The Casualties, Valient Thorr, Lionize, Murderess (from Mr Red's neck of the woods) etc. There's a pre-show tonight hosted by Dave Brockie featuring long-time GWAR hench-band Bloody Crackdown. Should be a blast.

UPCOMING- Lightning Bolt, Suppression, Buck Gooter, Lecherous Gaze, Parasytic + No Tomorrow, Wino + Conny Ochs, Jason Lescalleet, Puffy Areolas, Fang Island + Adebisi Shank, on and on...

Last one was Melvins. Great show Dunn was awesome with the stand up bass and Buzz and Dale ruled like always. Was supposed to see White Denim a couple of weeks ago but missed it because I wrecked my ankle that day.

Next show is Black Mountain/Quest for Fire its an outdoor Saturday show. The weekend after that I'm heading down to Portland for MFNW with a couple buddies.

Well, Yellowstock was great, as was to be expected. Capital Sentimental, Monomyth, Seven That Spells, Bong, My Sleeping Karma, The Flying Eyes, Kadavar, Baby Woodrose, Naam.... it was too much, man! \m/

Don't know what my next gig will be yet. Maybe check out the Incubate festival in Tilburg for a day or two, some cool bands playing there (Lesbian, Stinking Lizaveta, Fields Of The Nephilim, among others...)

I'm blowing off Wino & Conny Ochs as I type this. Worked all day on the garage today. Keeping the dough & getting the home in order carry much more weight for me right now.

Too late to stop now...

LAST - EYEHATEGOD on Thursday, they destroyed all get-out. Show of the year so far for me, although that probably won't stand for much longer because the...

NEXT - SWANS on Friday in Seattle...

Relapse Pizza is having big all-day blow out tomorrow with a bunch of local bands culminating with YOB headlining, but I'm very much on the fence about that. I'm due for a lot of travelling/shows over the next couple of months and I think I'm going to take in a quiet weekend while I can. That EHG show was really good enough to tide me over for a week or so anyway...
