Nah, no bumsex but a good night anyway.
Had a couple of strong beers and a bomb of (good) cheap speed, trundled off to the venue, had a big smoke, just in time for Dopefight. They were their usual excellent selves, great sound, good vibes. Found myself thinking it's time they got back on the case writing some new stuff though, rather than just touring the fuck out of the Budds material. Rammesses I was looking right forward to - not seen them since the very early days when they were pretty scrappy... new guitarist? Pretty sure that wasn't Tim! Mark's beard/sidies are nearly the size of his ridiculous cymbals. Their sound was gash - everything buried under a wall of white noise. Don't know if that's on purpose, new guitar guy not being on the same page soundwise, or a vindictive sound guy who thinks they're twats... Was a bit sad as they played some killer stuff, you just couldn't really hear any of it. EHG were on tip-top form, apologised for a slightly sketchy performance last year when they played the same venue, and then proceeded to play probably the tightest and best set I've seen from them. Not quite the frisson of danger as back in 2001 but the best gig I've seen from them since they got their shit together a bit. Sound was spot on, crowd was going for it, band was all smiles, good times.
Really really really glad I had the next day off.
