Gary Arce, Billy Cordell and new drummer Greg Saenz played a short set recently at The Date Shed for the Brittstock benefit in Indio, California under the Big Scenic Nowhere moniker. Although allotted very little time, they debuted a new song from the coming album and jammed out a 15-minute, completely improvised song of pure hypnotic bliss. The dynamics these particular three are creating together are amazing. Billy is filling in on bass in Kyuss Lives this year, but between tours the new Yawning Man album is indeed coming together, probably a Cobraside release, definitely this year.

Worth noting that Billy Cordell played bass on the Pot Head album and toured Europe with Yawning Man throughout 2005 and 2006. He almost played bass on Nomadic Pursuits having rehearsed earlier versions of those songs with the band. Greg Saenz was drummer for The Dwarves, he fits what Gary and Billy are doing like hand in glove. Fans of Yawning Man get ready for something special...

Believe me, I'd love nothing more than there to be a way they could tour the States, so the rest of the country could enjoy them. There's no real reason why it couldn't happen now really, just a matter of putting the right thing together. I suspect with this line-up it could happen.

A number of folks have asked about Mario and Fredo and what's up with all that. Fredo actually hasn't been in the band since 2010. Bill Stinson played drums on their 2011 European tour. As far as other members go, the simplest answer is everyone wanted different things. Beyond that, scheduling, conflicts, logistics and distance all played their part. Gary, Billy and Greg are all desert dwellers within a stone's throw of one another, facilitating a constant and steady practice schedule the last 6 months that's been yielding some glorious jammage, to be shared with all soon... get ready.

Since Gary has already posted it on Facebook, it's cool to drop it here. Yawning Man is going to try and shoot for a double album this time around. FUCK and YES.
