I say it when asked if I watch or not, I don't make it a point to mention it whenever I can. I only DL TV shows after I hear if they're worth it or not. I don't actually turn on the TV except to watch videos from my server.

I look down on most TV, but there's only a few good shows in NA. BBC documentaries are amazing though.

If it's pretentious to think that shows like Wipeout, So you Think You Can Dance, Glee etc... are crap and I think my time is better spent not vegging out, then fine. I'm pretentious.

A friend of mine doesn't have a TV, only a DVD-player and a beamer, mainly to protect his daughter from the evil influences. But if you lent him a DVD-box of a TV-series he and his wife won't leave the house for next three or four days.

I'd be bummed out if we couldn't occasionally distract the 3 year old with episodes of Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob the Builder, and Sesame Street.

Still, I'd like to think in a year or two we'll cut the cable. We watch TV, but I'm realizing a lot of it is unremarkable. And what we do want to watch over and over we can find cheaper (or even free) online.

I watch some but not much. So, therefore, I would probably say "I don't watch TV very much". And that is true. But I like some fairly shitty stuff by most people's standards when I do watch.

We were on a marathon Farscape binge for awhile. That got nipped in the bud when the quality took a serious nosedive into the shitter (surprising to think that a sci fi show with muppets could get bad, eh?) and we started watching Game of Thrones, which only underscored how awful Farscape was.

And yet, I feel we should finish the series. Just so we can say we did.

I only watch the news (which I usually record on the HDD), the rest is DVD/Blu-ray and downloaded TV-series. The regular TV-schedule doesn't mean anything to me anymore.

I keep TV for ballgames, movies, and Sanford & Son.

I'm seriously considering dropping it at some point. I don't even need to keep it for sports as I could buy a season pass to the Yankees from MLB.com. Regular TV shows are easy enough to find online legally now.

Does anyone work M-F 9-5?
Or some similar 5-day straight, 40 hour work week?

If so, what do you do when you get home from work?

I work 9-5, M-F.

I get home, change out of business casual into home casual, have a beer or a glass of wine, play with the kids, talk to the wife, help put kids to bed, have dinner, watch some dumb shit on Netflix or on the Tube of Boobs. On good nights I read instead.

I work from 6-2, normally. Get home by 3, crack a beer, throw on tunes LOUD and get dinner ready, until the wife and kids get home. If its baseball season, Giants game. Otherwise we hang out and do shit with the TV off...not without exceptions of course. My wife likes the Wheel. Whatever.

I work from home (telecommuting), so I pretty much just listen to music for at least 10 hours a day. I play video games, read a chapter or two from a book and will watch a movie then go to bed. Or I'll go and hang out with friends.

I prefer playing video games to watching TV, just because it's more active and not a passive experience. A lot of games actually challenge you in some way and most online games are good to keep the mind sharp because it forces you to into a strategy mindset.

Most movies I watch are proper films (have a message to convey) and not just mindless movies. Although I do sometimes enjoy the mindless movie sometimes (The Expendables being a more recent example), I can't tolerate most of them.

I pretty much work 9-5, too.

I get home and fix dinner and, if I'm lucky, get to see my daughter and go do something with her. On days I don't, I might listen to some music, write some music reviews, and then go read a book or talk on the phone to my girlfriend. That's about all I've got. Even stuff that I've built up in my mind to see and am extremely excited (initially) to watch (like Game of Thrones for instance) I wind up missing episodes and get hopelessly behind to the point where I can't (won't) catch up.

Its more 10 to 6 for me. Go home (10 minutes bicycle ride, a big plus), have dinner, talk with wife and son about whatever is on the agenda and then I usually watch the news and a movie or a couple of TV-series episodes. After that I read or talk even more with the wife. One or twice a week I go out to see a band or have a beer with my wife or a friend or both. Sounds boring? Its not.

I've really grown to dislike watching TV mainly because my wife and 3 year old have it on more than I would like. The TV is in a big cabinet and I recently reconfigured the living room so I can shut the cabinet doors so my daughter can't actually see the TV screen and it's been a big improvement. She doesn't yell for Dora The Explorer first thing in the morning any more.

My nighttime activities at home usually revolve around folding laundry while listening the first Girlschool tape. It's pretty mint.

I'd watch more TV if they let Alice Cooper get away with more stuff like this -

I can just see the the mountain of blow the tv-producers were doing when they came up with the concept for that show.

Everyone involved was probably on coke except for Alice who was a complete alcoholic at that point.

I don't watch TV and I don't miss it. I've found that people tend to react to real-life situations by mimicking something they saw on TV (an episode of Law & Order or, worse yet, The Wire!).
The last show that I was interested in, The Legend of the Seeker, got cancelled after 2 seasons and that pissed me off. People would rather watch badly produced crime dramas or vain fucking doctor-fucks-nurse post teen banal Grey's Anatomy than an epic fantasy archetype.

Saying you don’t watch TV is equally pretentious/not pretentious as saying you don’t read books.

So we took the plunge and cut cable and the landline. Going on two months now and it's not that big a loss. Davis can still watch Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine via Netflix, and me and the missus have been watching the fun stuff on the same or via the laptop, which is plugged into the TV. And the Comcast bill has gone from $150-160 a month to $60.
