Just heard about an impressive doom metal show on 8/6 at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn:

Disma/ Coffinworm/ Loss/ Oak

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2011/06/evillive_disma.html

Anybody been to Saint Vitus? How's it as a venue?

BrooklynVegan is hosting the exclusive Northeastern screening of Slow Southern Steel at Knitting Factory on August 13th! The screening, which will take place at 10PM, will feature FREE Jagermeister (for a limited time) as well as an appearance from the director CT. Then following the film, Knitting Factory will host performances from some of our favorite doom-y bands The Gates of Slumber, Cough, and Earthling. Tickets are on sale (admission includes the movie and the show).

Unearthly Trance was just added to the Disma record release show next Saturday at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn. Loss dropped off the bill.

I thought UT broke up a while ago... is this a reunion gig?

Tomorrow night at The Delancey:
http://bobbyblackroast.eventbrite.com/

Roast of BOBBY BLACK
Roastmaster Jose Mangin (SIRIUS XM Radio)
Performances by:

The Atomic Bitchwax
Cycle of Pain (f. members of Black Label Society and Monster Magnet)
Rob Cantrell (The Marijuanalogues)
Roast ROOFTOP: 7:30-9pm
Music: Basement: 9-12am

It's some sorta "roast" for Bobby Black (from High Times). Note that the poster also lists Judas Priestess on the lineup.

Bobby's getting hitched, so this "roast" is a party for that.

UT never officially broke up from what I was told. I ran into Jay a few days after that news broke and he gave me the scoop. The last day of their Japanese tour was the same day as the earthquake, which I think gave them all a pretty good case of headfuck. They got to play with the Melvins and HOF in front of huge crowds, so they decided that it was a good time to take a rest after 10 years of shows, because really, how the hell do you top that? Couple that with evading death and it was a well warranted break. Ryan posted news about it, but apparently it was done in haste and the wording didn't exactly reflect what they all decided on as a group. So, Jay told me he was doing a lot of damage control when everyone thought they broke up. Think they're just going to be a little more particular on which shows they do play going forward. Either way, I'm excited to hear the new project their doing with Tim Bagshaw of ex-Electric Wizard/current Ramesses fame.

I get this newsletter too. The dude's use of 5's instead of S's really gets to me though.

Reminder... Pearls & Brass are making a rare appearance tonight @ St Vitus.
And, Serpent Throne!
Both killer, but very different bands. If either one was playing, I'd consider it a can't miss show.
