Who's excited for the new series on April 23rd?

Premiering in the States on the same day as UK. But no Daleks this season apparently.

I tried but I had to stop at Victory of the Daleks. Did it really improve? I am skeptical. The new Series got me back into Who but I can't watch it any more. Classic Who all the way.

Sweet! My band is actually gonna have a cover of the theme song on our album. Should be out in the next couple of months.

Fuck yeah!! That's always been on my "Someone awesome should cover this" mix.

I heard Pink Floyd covered it once.

This excites me too! City of Death is what made me a huge Tom Baker fan and I love Douglas Adams.

This is bad ass! It's pretty much the arrangement we went with. I'll post our version when it's finished.

City Of Death is a great, great episode. If you haven't already, check out "THe Pirate Planet", that's probably my favourite one that Douglas Adams wrote.

I can't get into the new ones, and I've tried. I grew up on Doctor Who in the 70's and 80's, and I just don't like the new series a single bit...

I love the Pirate Planet. Burning planets for fuel is classic Douglas Adams.

Anything specific bug you about the new show? I'm new to the boat having got introduced to the canon with the new show so I'm curious about people for whom the new show (for lack of a better term) left behind. Is it the Doctors? The companions?

So new season. New episode.

Anyone who saw it: Are you as confused as I am?

This show seems right in my wheelhouse, but for whatever reason I've put off watching it. The previews for the new season look good, so with luck I'll get around to the previous seasons on Netflix and get caught up before too long.

So I guess I have to watch those two season 4 eps by Moffat about the Astronaut to get this one? What are good eps in Season 5? I've seen the first 3, not amazed. The Venice one looks bad.

I don't think this new shit has much to do with the previous season (outside of Rivers Song, and I think I remember them bringing up "The Silence" somewhere in there).

I liked the Reptile creature episodes in season 5, but the season finale is a bit contrived. And the Venice one isn't as bad as it looks and certainly better than the Van Gough episode.

I read (somewhere - maybe Alan Sepinwall's blog) the best way of describing Doctor Who - it's a kid's show that doesn't pander to kids. I can agree with that.

New season's been a bit manic, but fun. Got a little too cutesy here and there, but no complaints. I don't think there've been any Matt Smith episodes that'll have the same replay value as the David Tennant ones (like, say, "Family of Blood," which is, as I've said before, DOOM AS FUCK).

I think this series Moffat is coming into his own as far as arcing a Who series rather than too much emulation of that Davies years.

I'll always love Tennant. He was the Doctor that got me into the Whovian universe but Matt Smith really has cemented his place and role as the Doctor. But I think Arz is right as far as the caliber of quality on a episode basis; the Tennant years are priceless and countless episodes are worth watching and re-watching.

My gal and I have started a new nightly ritual of getting righteously blazed and watching the series again. "The Satan Pit" two-parter used to be kind of "meh" for me, but upon second viewing it's pretty fucking scary in a cosmic horror kind of way.

But this new series had a pretty fucking scary scene in that children asylum.

Doctor Who is the most exciting thing on television today, imo. What television should be.

On your note, Arz, about a kids show, the Guardian had an interesting point/counter-point on the new series being too scary for kids.

Finally Done. Here is a video. Not a perfect performance, but you get the point. The album version is mint though. Let me know if you want the studio MP3, and I can email it to you.

Alright, so I know this is something I should be watching but there is so fucking much of it that I don't know where the hell to start. What's the ideal jumping on point? The beginning of the new series with Eccleston?

Yes. Start with the 2005 years. It is really a good jumping off point for new people getting into the canon.

Once you're more familiar with the Doctor and his methods, the older shows will have that magic for you in the best way possible. Especially the Tom Baker years. If you're dying to have a vintage foundation of the show, start with "City of the Dead" on Netflix. Written by Douglas Adams and its one of the best of the Baker years.

For what it's worth, I've yet to get tired of this show. The latest season is a bit underwhelming, but still some shining moments in there.

I think you'll enjoy making this leap, Bullio.
