I'm sad that all of the threads about all the great Nazareth tapes are gone but now I can just regurgitate the same info hear without looking too redundant.

Nazareth rules! Loud & Proud and Razamanaz are my 2 faves followed closely by Hair Of The Dog. Been playing the hell out of "Miss Misery" and "Changing Times" from that tape in the car lately.

Another one of my fav. bands. The albums you mentioned are all strong from beginning to the end. But my fav, is Rampant. Something about this album just gets me going. Certainly the 4 albums they made in this short period of time, are as good as any hard rock band in the same period.

Rampant is indeed a good tape, never heard it until a few months ago.

Also just got the mint deluxe reissue of Expect No Mercy. It comes with 10 bonus tracks that are really strong. The record label rejected it and they went back and redid a few songs and wrote some new ones. Salvo Records in the UK has done a great job reissuing the Nazareth catalog.

Agreed. They have done a brilliant job with the Nazareth catalogue.

The production on Hair Of The Dog is incredibly good.

Another band with a classic double live tape. Their take on morning dew is great.

You can never go wrong with any early Nazareth.

"Loud & Proud and Razamanaz are my 2 faves followed closely by Hair Of The Dog."

That's about the way I see it.
'Broken Down Angel' is my fave of their classic songs.

Just picked up "No Mean City" the other day, and was surprised how cool it was. Except for one really limp ballad, it's got plenty of punch. And the sleeve is awesome, of course. I was thinking they were tapped out by 1979, glad to be proven wrong.

No Mean City is one of the very first albums I ever bought, probably late 70's. I think I earned enough points at school selling some kinda shit that I could pick from a list, and that was the one that stood out. Also had Hair of the Dog, but both have since walked outta my house. They're on my list of "to buy"(or replace).

No Mean City was an early record for me, too. I first owned it on 8-track (yep, I'm that old), and I probably bought it, initially, because the cover looked cool. That's way I rolled back then.

It remains my favorite Nazareth record of them all. Yeah, it's probably because it was my first one from the band, but it's also because I really connect with the songs. It's a hard rocking record and it really takes me back to a better time in my life. I still listen to it fairly often (and I can't say that about many other Nazareth records). However, on a recent road trip I pulled out Close Enough for Rock N' Roll, and while it was far from brilliant, it had some flourishes of greatness (well, at least goodness).

Most Nazareth records are pretty spotty for the most part. Even the good ones. But when they were "on", Nazareth was pretty damn great.

P.S. Hey Ralph, I bet "Star" was the one track you didn't like from No Mean City?

I keep expecting the song "Telegram" to do something and go somewhere great for a suite but it never gets out of first gear...

It was the last one off the first side...I think that was it.

Picked up Hair of the Dog in the $5 bin at Wal Mart last week. Nice to revisit it after all these years, several good songs on that record.

"Please Don't Judas Me" is awesome. My dad gave me a few records the summer I graduated high school and "Hair Of The Dog" was one of them. Not what my friends were listening to in the late 90s. They liked Hendrix and such but Nazareth was a little too dark and creepy for them.

Please Don't Judas Me was the first song I ever smoked weed to.
On 8-track.
It's an awesome song on a killer album, but it will never ever be as cool as it was that one time

I like Nazareth's version of Beggar's Day.

Gave my little sister Loud & Proud and Hair Of The Dog for Christmas. No complaints so far.

Took my lunch break at work and slipped around the corner to one of the local used vinyl shops. Dude had just put out a nice collection of heavy 70's, and I scooped up copies of Naz's Rampant, Exercises, and the '72 self titled. For cheap, too.

Razamanaz and Loud 'n' Proud have long been favorites of mine. I love turning people onto their version of The Ballad of Hollis Brown. Fucking heavy. Miss Misery is a classic, and that From the Beginning DVD is righteous.

Looking forward to throwing these on later tonight.

Nazareth had a kind of eerie forbidden creepy mythos attached to them similiar to the one BOC had back in theday. Not sure if they were held as responsible for any suicides like BOC were, but Hair of the Dog was definitely a record you hid from your parents circa 1978. Finally found an original clean A&M replacement copy in the bins recently.
