Original 4 LP set shelved in 1977 prolly due to the Disco Craze. Criminal. 2012 Zappa label remastered 3CD set is essential listening for fans.

I just got the Frank Zappa vinyl where he has pigtails and is wearing a dress on the album cover. Trying to get into it now.

Why make it hard on yourself? Go directly to the mid-70's era.
Do not Pass GO. Do not collect 200 dollars.

I agree with LB,when it comes to Zappa the mid-70s era is the best. Sounds like you bought We're Only In It For The Money. Good album but certainly not his best. More like a parody of Sgt.Pepper's and the whole hippie scene.

Actually if you want to hear Zappa at his most "hard rock",jammy and Sabbath-like,listen to the Live at Fillmore East '71 album featuring Aynsley Dunbar on drums.

His studio albums are super weird lol,but One Size Fits All seems his most consistant to me on a conventional hard rock level. Lather is a trip. Seems to fit into the same series as Sheik Yerbouti and Joe's Garage Acts I,II,and III with that weird album cover!
