Very good band overall. I really dig their Shazam LP and consider it a major classic. Seriously, I wish everyone could hear that album- it's fabulous. The only bad thing is the CD has been re-released with bonus tracks (all covers, I believe) which don't stand up to the quality of the original work, so if someone is unfamiliar with The Move, they might tend to rate them lower than the band deserves. Oh, The Move's cover of Folkie Tom Paxton's 'The Last Thing On My Mind' (from the original album) is sublime, though.
The Move's main man, Roy Wood, was a cool, creative musician/writer/producer/singer; but everyone in the band was an interesting figure.

Ah! I'm glad someone else out there gets them. I'm not into too many 60's psychedelic bands -- But I suppose The Move's connection to Black Sabbath and just the general heaviness and (for lack of a better term) fucked up quality make them extremely appealing. Even more so than Syd Barret era Floyd.
I love the first ELO record ('No Answer') as well and it makes me sad in retrospect that Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne couldn't have done one or two more records like it. Based on what I've heard of Wood's post ELO projects (Wizzard and such) he was the one who liked weird fucked up instrumentation and arrangements, even if he himself could do full-on pop as good or better than Lynne (See "See My Baby Jive" by Wizzard).
