I'm not just talking the obscure stuff; let's each choose 25 albums that we consider the best the decade had to offer. After we're finished (the thread sinks a ways down because no one has replied in a while), I'll tally the results. If something gets less than two votes, it won't count toward the final list.

PLEASE stick to 25 albums; if you choose more, I'll ignore the ones after the first 25 listed.

Thanks.

Sounds good, man. I'll come up with mine as well now that I know there's some interest.

Okay, here's mine. We are free to change them (edit your list post) until the final tally. I really wanted to put Devo's first album in here as it could be considered hard rock but I settled for sneaking in The Stranglers instead, which is also hard rock flavored. I also listed a couple hits albums which should count as they were released in the '70s. As you can see, my list will be one of the "odder" ones around these parts. So be it.

If you guys could use this format with your lists, that would be excellent.

Blue Oyster Cult - Blue Oyster Cult
Blue Oyster Cult - Secret Treaties
Blue Oyster Cult - Tyranny and Mutation
David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust
David Bowie - Aladdin Sane
Judas Priest - Stained Class
Judas Priest - Killing Machine
Kiss - Double Platinum
Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds of Fire
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Queen - Sheer Heat Attack
Queen - A Night at the Opera
The Stranglers - Rattus Norvegicus
Van Halen - Van Halen
Black Sabbath - Sabotage
Deep Purple - In Rock
Alice Cooper - Love It to Death
Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
Ted Nugent - Ted Nugent
Rush - 2112
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Frank Zappa - One Size Fits All
Rainbow - Rising
Neil Young - Decade

Yes, as long as it was released in the 70s.

Since we can edit I start throwing some things out and then refine my list.

I wonder if say, Exile On Main Street, or Physical Graffiti or some others I'm thinking of fit the Heavy part...even Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, Queen,David Bowie, ect...

Kiss - Alive
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Led Zeppelin - II
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
The Who - Live At Leeds
Montrose - Montrose
Rainbow - Rising
Ted Nugent - Ted Nugent
AC/DC - Let The Be Rock
Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny
Sir Lord Baltimore - Kingdom Come
Blues Creation-Demon And Eleven Children
Aerosmith - Rocks
Free - Tons Of Sobs
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Pink Floyd - Animals
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Van Halen - Van Halen
Cheap Trick - At Budakon
Buffalo - Volcanic Rock
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced
Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond
Aerosmith - Get Your Wings

I suppose about 3 more Sabbath records belong on this list...

If you interpret "Heavy" as depressing or bummed out I can see Neil Young up there. Also that would make way for a few Stones records.

It would be a stretch no matter how you look at it to get the first Devo in this list. I love that record though.

Yes, defining hard and/or heavy can be tricky but I figure personal interpretation adds a little spice anyway.

Thanks for the lists, guys.

Anything counts as long as it was released in the 70's and you consider it hard and/or heavy.

Is/are Montrose and Rock The Nation both the same first album by Montrose?

I'm guessing people are mistaking the song (Rock The Nation) for the album title, which is Montrose.

Montrose - Rock The Nation was the european version/title of the debut.

As long as the product was officially released in the 70's, it counts; studio albums, live, greatest hits, what have you...

I'm actually thinking this should even be expanded on to do all the decades. A forum top 25 by consensus for 60's 70's 80's 90's 00's. All in separate threads obviously. Let me know what you think, but don't mean to hijack.

Carry on with the 70's here...
