Been rediscovering how great those 2 were together. Hard Again is the best tape of the bunch but I'm Ready and King Bee are really good, too. "Champagne & Reefer" on King Bee is a personal fave. The live one is great, too. The 2003 reissue comes with a great bonus tape from a club show on the tour.

I'll have to check this out, was gettin' my Muddy Waters fix on a few weeks back pretty deep, the After The Rain album in particular, that Bottom Of The Sea tune is immense (especially George Thoroscum's studio take on it).

I listen to a lot of Blues, and HARD AGAIN is the best Chicago Blues album I've ever heard. Killer !
Muddy had a lot of great bands over the years, but his lineup at that time was exemplary. Song choices are excellent, and the production (by Johnny Winter) is just about perfect.
The other LPs were strong, too, although 'MUDDY "MISSISSIPPI" WATERS LIVE' has too many songs which are samey. The more recently released 'BREAKIN' IT UP, BREAKIN' IT DOWN' is also live, and much more interesting, in my opinion.

I need to get Breakin It Up, Breakin It Down pronto. Forgot all about that one.

Recently finished reading the Johnny Winter biography called Raisn' Cain and it is excellent. Very well researched.

I'd like to read that one.

I saw Johnny play circa early 90's. Just that one time. Wish I'd made more of an effort to see him when he was out'n'about more.

Yeah that's about when I saw him...might have even been late 80's. I heard the last time he played he looked horrible, sat in a chair the whole time and had to helped up/down and off the stage. He's not young, I used to have some of his early recordings which went back to '58 & '59.

He had to be helped on stage when I saw him, too. Can't remember if he sat down or not. Seems like he stood for at least some of the songs, if not all.
He looked ok, and sounded good.

My only complaint about that show was that it was too short.

However, we did miss a few songs because we were late, so maybe it was our fault. I wanted my buddy to go. I knew he'd enjoy it 'cause we're both huge Blues & Rock fans, and listened to Johnny since the early 70's. My friend was moody & cranky, though (old black hippie from Chicago who did too much "stuff" back in the old days), so I had to talk him into it. He finally agreed that Johnny should not be missed. Then, since he didn't go to many shows at that point, he had to array himself in the proper attire for the big occasion; and that turned into a fairly big production (well, by my standards). He had to have a silver ring on pretty much every finger, one of his esoteric medallions, and he had all these vintage scarves which he tied on his head, legs, arm, what-have-you. Probably wore the coyote fur boots. Of course finding/digging all of this stuff out ran into some time. The guy was a real character.

It was worth it- I had a blast. Johnny Winter is the man !

Now Playing: Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo
