Post subject:  Help me ID this 70s gear

Hi there,

I want to identify the gear the guy in the following picture is using.

I was told it´s a "67 Custom Les Paul" (sic).
The same source said the bass was a Hagstrom, which is more likely than a "67 Les Paul" (unless satanically custom).
Same source said the amp was a Fender "twin or reverb".

As it is, this seems to be the equipment used to record a 1972 album (the guy in the picture is the guitar player).
Anyway, this is it:

Picture No 1

Thanks in advance.

Would it help if I post a sample of the end result?

This a song for their first and only album, recorded and released in 1972
...as a 50 copy limited-run.

I´ve been said the bassman is a late 60s model, and the fender is a twin of the same era. But I still want to know about that Les Paul.

Les Paul's in '67 were SG style I think. That bass does look like a Hagstrom. Amps, I have no idea.

Edit: Les Paul's were not produced between '64 and '67. '68 introduced a goldtop, and in '72 the deluxe was introduced with the mini-humbuckers. Probably what that is.

yeah, it kinda looks like it has mini humbuckers to me.

otherwise, hard to tell what year the les paul is, but it looks like a custom.

Amp is a fender something or other. Doesn't look like a twin to me.

That´s what I thought when the son of one of those musicians told me it was a "67" Les Paul.

Wikipedia say Deluxe Les Pauls were introduced in 1968:

Quote:
The first incarnation of the Deluxe featured a one-piece body and slim three-piece neck in late 1968. The "pancake" body (thin layer of maple on top of two layers of Honduran mahogany) came later in 1969. In late 1969, a small "volute" was added.

If true, it means the profile would tell us the year it was produced.
I know those musicians arrived to Peru almost broken, carrying that guitar (and some Sabbath LPs) in mid 1972.

Deluxe Les Paul, that seems the way. Thanks!

Werent all custom LPs black?
I know modern customs can be white, red, etc.

Were there SUNBURST Custom Les Pauls in 1972?

Also, customs have wider headstocks. Sadly the picture doesnt help. I´ll wait for a hi-res image.

---------------------------

That guitar was said to be delivered to the band by the guitar player, just before a show.
He told them he was not going to play that music anymore and then joined a sect.
