Pretty generic, honestly. Too many bands try to have that tone these days. I understand why guys like Greg Ginn put down Marshall, Orange, the big name brands, because it gives people the illusion that simply going out and buying a certain amp will make them have good tone. Greg Ginn uses Carvin solid state amps. He sounds much better than this, because he sounds like himself. This is Hank III trying to be something he is not.

That tone(which I don't see as being that hard to achieve) together with what he's playing actually sounds pretty good to me. It reminds me a lot of Electric Wizard from 10+ years ago and I don't hear that many bands today with that sound. I had written this off after hearing one of his sludgy songs months back but now I'm rethinking that based on this clip. If it's good, it's good, I don't care who's playing it.

I agree actually, to me, it's overly generic. I can't tell you how many have that sound because I don't have enough hands...but ultimately it comes down to what sounds good to the person creating it, who cares what others think.

Reverend Chainsaw was at the Hank III show in Portland and video taped it on his phone and you could clearly see Hank Playing Matt's Old Green Amps!

Thanks man. This was pretty much my acid test for this rig. Took delivery of the stack, plugged it in, mic'd it up, guitar straight in, and went for it.

The amp is an Electric (Butt Pussy!) MV 120, pushing a 4x12 (Manowars) and a 2x12 (Tonkers). Guitar is a 2005 Gibson LP Standard Faded, loaded with Burstbuckers. No pedals in the recording, just the guitar's volume knob. Improvised, and most likely drunk or high. Or both. Just realized this was 3 years ago. Damn!

I am a pedal guy normally though.

Care to share that schematic? I actually want to convert the pre-amp down to FETS and make a little 1 watt practice amp for myself.
