I find that the EHX Memory Toy is a great bang for the buck, though as soon as I am able I will be buying a Strymon El Capistan. I am a bass player with a broke guitarist that will use anything I plug in to his chain.

I have said this on previous versions of this subject, but...

I love the Boss/Roland Space Echo, and I also love the sound of the older Deluxe Memory Man pedals. I just wish I could either: Get a tap tempo put on the Memory Man, or modulation control on the Space Echo.

That would do the trick.

I have owned so many different delay pedals, and never really found THE ONE.
(Boss DD5, DD6, Analogman Modded DD6, RV5, TREX Replica Delay, DanEcho, Space Echo, AD999)

Currently using the Space Echo, but if something better comes along, I won't hesitate. Everything else I have found pretty much what I wanted (distortion, fuzz, phaser, etc...) but delay is still something I keep re-thinking all of the time.

Have you checked out the Strymon? It's supposed to be pretty tape-y.

I'm gonna have to buy one of those. Thanks.

I've never played through the El Capistan, but from the demos i've seen online, it's pretty damn good. Not too fond of the limited save/ preset capability, though. A good deal is a Boss DD-6, because for whatever reason, it got discontinued and I think that the warp function (basically a volume swell) could go over well with experimental/ noise guys. DD-6's can be found for pretty good prices, the last time that I looked, because most people want the DD-7 or assume that the DD-3 is what they need.

I use a Retro Sonic Analog Delay, and an Empress Superdelay Vintage Modified. Both are great....the Retro Sonic is the best analog delay that i've used. The SDVM is what you should expect.....the tape simulation mode is unreal.

The Malekko 616 is really good, too, if the Retro Sonic is way out of your price range. Memory Boy and Memory Toy are priced very affordably, but have apparently had problems and glitches, proving how hard it is to get a BBD chip delay right.

Get a tap tempo put on the Memory Man

^ I would also like this. I'm very satisfied with my DMM, but I've heard older ones that sound a even better and seem to be a bit more sensitive to knob tweaking, which is cool for what I do with it.

I am going to give that Strymon a whirl sometime in the next 3 months.

Boss DD5 always did it for me. Seems to have more control than most of the others Ive tried, including earlier and later models from boss, and its tonal coloring is minimal, leaving the signal super clean. Great delay for bassists. Mix that mofo with a Dunlop bass wah and youve got a wall of tripped out, usable sounds.

I'm pretty happy with the Deluxe Memory Man. It's pretty big, but that also makes it easy to change the settings with your toe so you don't have to bend down to tweak the knobs. I don't really need tap tempo, I get by with one long and one short delay.

I also have a space echo, but the motor at the end of it's road so I don't know what to do. It's almost as expensive to buy another space echo as it is getting it fixed.

I'm digging my mxr carbon copy. It's just a nice meat and potatoes delay for me.

Has anyone got the newer smaller sized Deluxe Memory Man? I was wondering how well it sounds compared to the big box version. I know that the XO Stereo Electric Mistress is more harsh than the old big box version.....i'm always kinda wary that the electronics (surface mount) have some negative effect on some of the new version.

I emailed the Strymon dudes. They responded right away, and said if I by the elCapistan, it would be shipped out next day. Think I'm gonna order one. Those look pretty badass!

This is my go to pedal right now. It's actually a lot cleaner than my old Deluxe Memory Man, almost as warm, and the mod sounds great once you get those trimpots set good and proper.
