Was looking at this vintage 4x12" Simms-Watts cab on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110692634126&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

...but I would use it for Bass guitar. I've watched a lot of youtube vids and bassists (Glenn Cornick, Nick Simper, Geezer Butler et al) back in the late 60's/early 70's used these thin and sealed 4x12" guitar cabs for their bass rigs, like Iron Claw (the very first Sabbath inspired band) who was sponsored solely by Simms-Watts:

This is what i'm using now:

I don't know what to do?

Help me John Entwistle!

I use to use play the bass through a 4x12 guitar cabinet, but it was just because it was all I had. It did create a cool tone though!

Thanx Keith ;) do you think the Ampeg svt is too "powerful" for those small magnet stock fane (50 w) speakers?

YES! You will blow the shit out of those Fanes with an SVT. I blew two 100W Celestians in a 412 with an SVT. The Fanes are way too rare and valuable to risk them. You could buy the cab and get enough from selling the Fanes to get any speakers you want, even EVs.

Could I use the Eminence Delta's out of my Earth cabs? That's another thing that confuses me: using "modern" drivers in a vintage cab defeats the point of what I'm trying to achieve??

My goal may not be practical in the first place.

I thought speakers could take whatever you threw at them as long as the Ohms match up?

-but I've also heard playing bass through little guitar amps could fuck up the speaker.

-Hope this helps...I like the look John Entwistle has going on in that photo.

I like those Simms Watts cabs, way cool. Our bass player uses a Marshall guitar head and guitar cab sometimes, works really well, quite a punchy tone, doesn't seem to cause any damage to anything, at least not so far.

I think a lot of it depends on the power rating of the head compared to the cab. Those SVT heads are something like 350 watts and if you stick them into a 100 watt cab you're asking for trouble. A lot of bass ehad are rated at a higher power than guitar cabs as, theoretically most bass players are after a greater headroom for a cleaner sound. Similarly some bass heads are obviously designed to give a strong bass response whereas guitar cabs are designed for the guitar frequencies so I don't think that does them much good either. Oddly though using a bass into a guitar am and cab seems to be ok as the head and cab are matched and it will take away a lot of the bottom end...hence the punchy tone. I think Dusty Hill uses guitar amps sometimes

Playing guitar through a bass amplifier can have some nice surprises as well: the guitarist/friend I jam with plays through my bass Sunn combo (Fender era) of 70 watts sometimes, just pushing the volume and he gets a Kyuss tone in an instant with his Strat. Pretty cool.
