This doesn't include writing time, new band lineups, jail sentences, weeks in rehab, or any of that other shit that can throw you off schedule. I'm talking regular studio visits here.

My current project has been going on for the past 6 months with studio time every week, sometimes 2-3 times a week. We probably won't be really done until July or August. I'm not used to getting the luxury of taking our damn sweet time and being picky.

The old Palace In Thunderland sessions always seemed rushed, as we would have to cram in everything we wanted to do within 2-4 days. Can't imagine what we would have done with 8-10 months of studio time on an album! For Fucks sake!

For the latest one we're doing. Around 3 days, 2 days recording live, a few hours to record an acoustic track and a guest vocal and most of a day mixing. Though it is now getting mixed again. I don't think I would enjoy it taking much longer than a few days.

Took us a couple months to do the HUGENELK album, which was far too long for my liking. I would much rather feel a bit rushed so there's a real impetus to just get it done. If you allow yourself too much time it's possible (and extremely likely, in my experience) to over-think things that should be allowed to flow naturally.

I can understand the merits of sort of being... well, not "rushed", but having a set amount of time to do an album. A Certain rawness that can't be purposely overdubbed is a good thing.

I've had that happen in every recording experience until this one. We are definitely trying not to over think things. Seems to be working out very well. Not having to worry about a budget has been pretty stress relieving.

I WILL say that I'm getting very impatient. I wish it was done already. We have not been booking any shows until mid summer because we have been so caught up in studio. I'm very happy with how it's going so far, and the end is near, so I guess it will all be worth it in the when we finally get it ready to press.

In my old band Nero Circus back in the 90's we were given 2 weeks studio time to record and mix our album...it came out sounding fucking shit!!!

With Grifter it worked out at around 3 and a half days to track the music and vocals plus an extra evening to record an acoustic track. After that the mixing took about a month but that consisted of the producer mixing stuff when he had the time then sending files back and forth via email to get suggestions and make tweaks so it wasn't a solid block of time for the mix, maybe an hour or so an evening 2-3 evenings a week. This album has come out sounding a million miles better!!!

Having less time to record does get the adrenaline flowing and you do get a certain vibe and it does help to keep the takes fresh.
