After being able to get my head around this I like it quite a bit. I dismissed it as "Post-Rock" and didn't really have the patience to sit through it and figure out what's going on. It's not exactly AC/DC. What it is, is Neil Young/Eagles Americana applied to big huge Neurosis style epicness. They remind me a lot of Thin White Rope, or at least the elements of Thin White Rope I liked the most. Cool wandering lost in the desert. Loneliness, twangy doom.

I really like this one too. This album made up a huge part of my summer soundtrack.

Like the band a lot and never made the Thin White Rope-comparision (and they are one of my favorite bands) but you are right.
