Like tequila and lime juice, sex and violence, love and loathing, when a band hits a perfect mix of punk and doom, the result is compelling. Thorr-Axe hit the right mix on their debut Wall of Spears. If you have never heard of Thorr-Axe, you are definitely not alone. You can go and remain blissful in your ignorance, or you can search out a copy of this behemoth and enjoy that which is Thorr-Axe. It will improve your shitty life. No doubt I often get very excited about things others give a rats-ass about (in all honesty, the day that changes is the day my world ends), and perhaps Thorr-Axe falls in that category. But I'd bet big this band gets a lot of attention in the small world of doom very soon; and if you read the praise heaped on Thorr-Axe from other doom blogs, that is a pretty safe bet. Then again, I also bet that the housing bubble wouldn't burst before I cashed in on the buying frenzy. |
