Updated, but certainly not a lot to talk about. At least as far as out of town bands go. It looks like this is the summer of 2011, but the MFNW is sort of an atomic bomb of goodness, especially as far as Neurosis goes, who only play like half-a-dozen USA shows every couple of years.

I'm hitting QotSA tomorrow. A lot of people gripe about them, but they honestly haven't let me down yet. I do kinda wish Josh would have stuck with TCV, who were off the hook when I saw 'em, but oh well. I'm sure I'll have fun. Anyone heading up to the Soundgarden show in George?

Neurosis were on form on Monday, setlist below seems to be pretty consistent for the whole euro tour.

Locust Star
Given to the Rising
End of the Harvest
A Season in the Sky
At the Well
Water Is Not Enough
Belief
At the End of the Road
Killing Elk
Through Silver in Blood

Cool, they've been playing iterations of that setlist for the last three or four years now. It's nice that they're digging back into their nineties catalog (my favorite stuff from them).

I bailed and sold my ticket to QotSA, too tired after work. It would have been perfect if I had the energy, the posted end of the show was 10 PM, but I just didn't have the energy to deal with a full house of their douchebag fanbase now. But hey, I can say I saw them at EJ's!

Yeah, I don't think you can beat the first EJs show.

I'm going to the Gorge tomorrow. It will be my first chance to see Soundgarden because I lived in Alaska when they were together. I couldn't ask for a better lineup, so going was a no brainer for me.

So how was it? That venue is sort of so-so for me. Pretty cool for a panoramic experience, but the wind/sound there is pretty brutal. It would be an optimal place to see a Grateful Dead show! :)

I guess the QotSA show here was epic (I pussed out and sold my ticket), but I heard it from someone who didn't see them at EJ's.

Anyway, updated. The Rotture show on Sunday is a benefit for Transient, who were involved in a bad van accident while on tour in Georgia. The East End show on 9/3 is The Scream of Pete Stahl/Dave Grohl fame, but I'd be surprised if Dave is actually aboard for this.

Yep, I heard about this a couple of weeks ago, so good to see it has leaked further. I fly out of town on vacation the next day, so perfect timing! Fucking stoked!

The Gorge show was pretty damn good. I hung out in the sound booth the whole time, so it sounded great from there. Soundgarden were AMAZING. I couldn't ask for a better performance or set list. Every album was well represented, and they played all of my favorite songs of theirs except Hands All Over. I was bummed Queens didn't do the whole first album thing, but they played a nice varied set, and Josh's working-the-crowd banter was pretty funny. I'm spoiled from seeing Mastodon in small venues so many times, so it's just not the same anymore.

To add to the schedule, we're playing a killer show next week:

8/26 The Alleyway - Diesto, Bitches Crystal, The Hedonist - early show, 8:30!

We got Bitches Crystal to come down from Seattle for this... We played their first show up at the Comet a few months ago and they fuckin blew everyone away! My description of them has been "what Pelican would sound like if they had a pair." The Alleyway is an awesome bar too... We play on the floor, but the staff are super friendly and there's a nice patio out back.

Damn! I just booked my trip to Vegas over the weekend! The same night I'm seeing Kyuss Lives! in Vegas, this is happening here:

10/7 Plan B - Karma to Burn, White Orange, Heavy Voodoo, Lamprey

Oh well, it'll be worth it if Reeder is playing with them.

Great lineup. It's going to have a bit of competition that weekend with Fall Into Darkness, though. I think the announcement is tomorrow.

Yeah, I saw Agalloch was posted as the big Fall into Darkness draw for 10/7 and was like "no sweat", but not that this has leaked, I'm officially bummed:

10/8 Rotture - Premonition 13, Acid King, Witch Mountain, Tombstalker

Premonition 13 is the new Wino band. And it's been four-five years since I've seen Acid King and I'm the biggest AK fanboy in this town like 15 years running by now.

A pretty goddamned epic update imo. Most of which was already posted by cyberspaceship and myself over the last half-dozen or so, but whatever. It's weird that it seemed like most of the really epic stuff I saw in 2010 was like September onward and that is exactly how this year is shaping up (Ludicra, Wovenhand and Swans notwithstanding).

To anyone who likes a little old school 80's punk with their metal, do NOT miss out on Kicker at the Know on Sept 22 ... some familiar badass dudes playing some familiar (but original) badass punk rock.

(check the info http://www.facebook.com/kickerpunks#!/kickerpunks?sk=info)

Stoneburner and another band to be announced will be supporting.

Kyuss Lives now includes The Sword, YOB, and Black Cobra.

I heard about Black Cobra yesterday but YOB seals the deal. That is so awesome. Good for them getting all of these great "big name" shows. Fucking hell.

Thank you for this great resource for finding bands to see around PDX.

Hopefully there's an addition or change to the current listing:
10/27 Hawthorne Theater - Devin Townsend, Anathema

. . . I was lead to believe the band called The Ocean would be the opener. At least that's why I bought my ticket anyway, hope I was not lead astray. Same for the next night in Seattle.

Post subject:  Re: Portland Oregon shows

You're welcome. I don't play in bands or act as a promotor, so the list is kind of my small contribution to the scene I've enjoyed here for the last 15 years or so. This list has been going for five or six year on here and stonerrock.com. I usually update it every two weeks, but this was stretched to three due to work, then vacation, then getting laid out my back for three days this week.

Some pretty cool updates this time around. The Atlas Moth/Kowloon show on 11/12, but damn, the same night as Spindrift (a more cinematic fave of mine). Impetious Ritual and Impiety from across the Pacific. It's rad YOB got on the Kyuss Lives! bill. Looks like Karma to Burn at Plan B fell thru for next weekend...

First off, this list is totally essential. Many thanks, I make it to at least eight or nine shows a year that I doubt I would have heard about without Mr Red, who I don't think I have ever actually met.

I heard something about an ex-subarachnoid space band ('eight bells' perhaps?) playing fall into darkness. Anyone know if that Is confirmed?

Eight Bells (Melynda/guitarist and Christopher/drummer from SubArachnoid Space) is very much confirmed to play Fall Into Darkness. First night, Thursday 10/6. First band on.
