Plan B has a goth night or something already planned for 10pm. The bands say they start at 8pm.

Ah, I see it now. I might have to stick around and see what an actual goth gathering is all about...

They only played 23 minutes, but they were good. Alaric really hit the spot for me though. The number of great bands from the NoCal bay area is seemingly endless.

Updates.

Old news but Slayer are coming back to town in the summer. I might have to head out to this one for my official goodbye to the band, as I don't think they've got a lot of shows left in them. And that's about as good of a venue (The Colesium) and night (Saturday) as I could expect at this point. Over 25 years since I first saw them.

We've got another show in May:

May 6th - The Know - Diesto, The Leaders, Fruit of the Legion of Loom

It's gonna be a fun one... Leaders is Kelly Gately from Fireballs of Freedom's new band, and Fruit are just awesome.

Hot damn! I never thought I'd get to see Soundgarden. Their last show here was the day I moved to Portland, and it was already sold out...

Looks like QOTSA is coming through 7/28 on their way to The Gorge. Roseland.

According to the East End calendar, Red Fang and Lord Dying are going to do another Independence Day block party show. 7/3. That'll be Lord Dying's one year show anniversary if I recall correctly.

And MFNW show announcements are coming probably the 1st of June. There should be at least one show during the fest that should appease every breed of stoner-rocker.

huh, the QotSA presale password is "BRONZE", so they're more than likely continuing the show featuring the s/t material. That'd be cool, but it won't compare to seeing the original McCoy at E.J.'s in 1998. And I'm part of the silent minority (here at least) that still enjoys a QotSA show. It'll be a cool contrast to check out for when the Garcia/Oliveri/Bjork tour hits here later this year.

Looks like we'll have some good options at MFNW this year. The lineup so far includes:

Butthole Surfers
Diesto
Grails
Kylesa
Nether Regions
Neurosis
Pig Destroyer
Rabbits
Thrones
Witch Mountain
Wizard Rifle
Yob

Akimbo!
And White Hills!
And a few others are satisfactory.

Personally for me, the biggest deal behind the Neurosis coup, is getting Grails to play a local show after four years. But aren't they part of the Neurosis showcase? It would be nice if they'd get a headlining set themselves.

I'll also be interested to see what kind of venue/showcase the Butthole Surfers play. I've never gotten around to seeing them.

I saw the Buttholes at Crystal Ballroom last time they rolled through (fall 2009). Not quite as crazy as in the 80s but still a great show. I will definitely try to catch that one.

Updated. The Enslaved/Ghost show is the hugest thing in my world. I'm also leaning toward seeing the Meat Puppets this week. School night, but Curt Kirkwood in that room is going to be amazing.

I was at that QOTSA show at Ej's. Great night. I took some people who weren't fans at the time, and now that they are I rub it in their face every chance I get. They stopped serving us about halfway through QOTSA's set because my buddy went up to buy a round and was slurring his ass off. I miss EJ's, but not the bathroom so much.

Shameless self promo:

Stoneburner will also be playing at the Atriarch show on the 1st (at the know). Small room, loud bands...this should be good.

Updates.

The MFNW lineup has fleshed itself out completely and I have to say it's pretty fucking strong. I could go see multiple things Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. I already bought my Neurosis ticket though, so a wristband probably ain't worth it now.

Hell yeah it is! I am really torn over 9/8...I want to see both BHS/Thrones and Kylesa/Black Cobra/Witch Mtn. Ah well, it's good to have choices.

If you're up for something different, we're playing the PDX Pop Now! festival next weekend... Here's the lineup the day we're playing:

Sunday – 7/24

Outside
12:00: Water Tower Bucket Boys
12:40: Cloaks
1:20: Hausu

Inside
2:05: Port St. Willow
2:45: Rollerball
3:25: Nasalrod

Outside
4:10: Radiation City
4:50: The Woolen Men
5:30: Diesto

Inside
6:15: Classical Revolution PDX
6:55: Onuinu
7:35: Holy Sons

Outside
8:20: Musee Mecanique
9:00: Kelli Schaefer
9:40: Brainstorm
10:20: Guidance Counselor

Other days are here: http://www.pdxpopnow.com/summer-festival-schedule

And Red, you should buy a wristband and sell your ticket outside before the show for twice as much as you paid because tickets will probably sell out... I don't think they sell all that many to save room for those with wristbands. Or sell it to a super grateful friend who didn't get off their ass to get tickets in time... I'm not pointing any fingers.

This is the first year that I would actually buy a wristband if I wasn't getting one for free. Again, you could probably sell your ticket that comes with it for whatever Pioneer Courthouse Square show that I don't want to go to and cover the cost of the wristband.

hmmmm, I like the way you think. A spare Neurosis ticket would surely come in handy methinks. It would be good to know how many people they let into the show with wristbands. A ticket is a guarantee into the show, which is mostly what I'm looking for. Neurosis shows don't happen very often anymore you know! Also, in my older pussified/hermit version of myself, it is likely I will end up only going out one or two nights of that three day festival weekend. I DID make it out to at least parts of (and saw most of the bands of) all four days of last year's Fall into Darkness though. That's something.

Add 8/23....Excruciator, Doomsower, Witchasaurus Hex, and Caustic Misanthropy at the Ash Street Saloon....a night of Doom, Black, and Power metal apparently?
