10pm FREE SHOW!!!!

Righteous Fool - bluesy groove-oriented metal

Few bands start out dealing with more listener expectations than Raleigh’s Righteous Fool. The band is composed of bass player Mike Dean and drummer Reed Mullin of local hardcore/metal legends Corrosion of Conformity, and guitarist Jason Browning of Bad Brains frontman HR’s solo band.

This power trio can chug along like a locomotive at high velocity, or inch forth with the density of ...an advancing lava flow. All three members sing, and the vocals tend to be a bit more melodic than early COC. The music combines the better elements of doom metal and hard rock with some intelligent alternative devices. Browning seems to ignite an energy that is refreshing and the songs seem to come from a different place than where COC material is dreamt up.

This band is relatively new, so few people know much about them, other than the reputations of their previous bands. They've recently released a 2-song 7″ EP on SOUTHERN LORD which serves as an awesome introduction to the new project.

They're gearin' up for a short run of dates with Clutch and Kylesa, so be sure to get here early and get a spot up front so one day you can say "I saw those guys at DIVEbar!"

Black Thai - grooving riff-centered stoner metal outta Boston

Universally-bearded Black Thai was formed in 2009 by long-time friends Jim Healey (We're All Gonna Die) and Scotty Fuse (Cortez) out of a series of beer-fuelled late night conversations about music.

The two were interested in what it might be like if they got together and jammed on some ideas with no outside pressures, just to see where it might go. It was obvious right away that this democratic songwriting approach would yield interesting results. Elements of each of their other bands We're All Gonna Die and Cortez were present, but blended with other influences to become its own animal.

Adding his own unique perspective and ideas, bassist Cory Cocomozzi proved to be a perfect match. Completing the puzzle was Scott's bandmate Jeremy Hemond (Cortez, Roadsaw) who came onboard after the initial recordings, bringing his Bonham-inspired drumming to the table.

For fans of Kyuss, Only Living Witness, Lo Pan.
