Orange Goblin? That's cool!
I wonder if anyone is opening for QOTSA- not that I'm going, but that could sway me if it were a good opener.

Orange Goblin will be a treat!

Ron - I wouldn't imagine you (or any of us) picking QOTSA over Helmet, Saint Vitus and Crowbar, maybe if it was an off night....

Ehh... Irving Plaza (and Helmet) don't do it for me. Plus, when I saw Crowbar, I wasn't impressed.

Sat 3/26 - Naam, Quest For Fire, The Atomic Bitchwax @ Union Pool

Post subject:  Re: NYC SHOWS

The 24th is a clusterfuck. Here's the way I see it... both are early shows, according to web. TBL is one of my favorites, and since they are first, that's the easy part. I like Puny Human, and they haven't played out in years, so I'll stick around for them. That probably means I'll miss Naam (who I really dig), but they play out a lot, and I will probably see them 6-8 more times this year, so I can live with that. ASG... ehh, I'd watch if I had nothing else happening, but they are just "ok". Danko Jones vs Weedeater? No contest. But, if the Weedeater show weren't happening, I'd stick around for Danko, since I've never seen him/them.

Lisa- Sweet Diesel are playing at The Gutter.

Just heard that Ace of Clubs has closed (and Acme restaurant) for renovations but word on the street is that it won't be back in the same incarnation. Sucks, that was my favorite small venue in the city.

Ace of Clubs has shows listed for the next month or so... did they already close?

That's a bummer- I liked that place. It's so difficult to run a bar with live rock bands [almost] every night in NYC. It seems, even if a place is doing well (CB's, the Continental, etc) it lasts until their lease expires, then the landlords jack the rent so much, they have to close (or stop having bands (Continental, Brownies, etc). Hell, the Knitting Factory was one of the most "professional" small venues in NYC (probably #1), and I heard they even paid the bands well... they are on their third location in the last 5 or so years. I just said to someone at work this week "every place I like closes".

The guy who owns the building & restaurant upstairs came in on Monday and pretty much told everyone to pack their shit & fuck off. He signed a new lease with some restaurateur group & will be changing the space into a multi-level yuppie lounge of sorts. Pretty shitty way to do business. Nobody was given any sort of advance notice. I heard that some of the restaurant workers that were off on Monday came in on Tuesday to see the entire space already cleared out and half demolished. Pretty fucked if you ask me. They could have at least made some sort of announcement and then had a blowout party to sell off the rest of the booze & perishable food.

I am really sad about it as well, it was my favorites place to see a small show.
