I wrote a review of the first Wight album a while back. I think they're really something special
Wight Wight Weedy Wight Bilocation Records LP + 7” / Fat & Holy CD
German band, Wight, play an irresistible mix of stoner, psychedelic and doom rock that truly mesmerizes throughout their debut album that appears to be named in homage to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. The four long songs on the LP showcase a band patiently building huge stoner structures until the tunes crescendo like massive guitar tsunamis. Second track, ‘All Beyond The Piend of Being’ is the standout with the spiralling central guitar riff eventually giving way to a epic downtuned volcanic jam. Two bonus tracks (on the 7” with the LP version and also included on the CD) find the band in straight hard-rock mode with ‘Shaman Woman’ a particularly effective Led Zep style bawdy rocker. While there’s nothing particularly innovative on this release, it’s hugely enjoyable and recommended to those who like to chill out to something a little stronger than a mug of Horlicks.
