We're All Gonna Die are playing three reunion shows this summer, and this was the first of those, with a strong line-up rounding out the bill. Here's how it went down...

Wolfsmyth kicked off the festivities with a set of hard rock/metal that was decidedly Old School in its execution. No breakdowns, no blast beats, no twenty minute odysseys, just a set of solid meat and potatoes rock. I'll need to check them out again to really form an opinion on them, as they didn't blow me away, but they were decent enough.

The Humanoids kicked it up a notch next. They've been playing around for years and they still bring it. I honestly don't know if there's another band ANYWHERE that enjoys being a rock band more than these guys. Lifers through and through. Johnny Machine's operatic wail is the perfect foil to the riffs they unleash, and Mr. B beats the crap out of his kit like it just insulted his mother. Long may the Humanoids raise their collective fist.

I haven't seen Portland, Maine's Murcielago in years and this was my first time seeing them with Roadsaw axe slinger Ian Ross on board. I have two words for you: HOLY and SHIT. These dudes ripped Allston a new one. Full-on heavy 70's style ROCK, with lots of dueling guitars and solo trade-offs between Ross and Matt Robbins. Strong melodic vocals and tight bass playing was provided by rock veteran Neil Collins, and drummer Brian Chaloux is an absolute monster on the kit, laying down a ferocious backbeat. Top shelf stuff for sure. They have a new album all recorded, so keep both of your eyes peeled for these guys. Fuckin' right on.

The Best Rock Band in Boston, Cocked 'N Loaded , was next and they proved once again why they're one of the best fucking live bands of any genre in this town. No frills, all energy AC/DC style rock is what they do, it's all they do, and we love them for it. Pete Knipfing (Lamont, Hey Zeus) was filling in on guitar for shredder Matt Sullivan tonight, but they didn't lose a step at all. Frontman Kyle Neeson had the crowd in the palm of his hand the entire time, with everyone singing the choruses of pretty much every Goddamned song. Riffs, sweat, beer, passion. That's what Cocked 'N Loaded are all about. No idea AT ALL why these dudes aren't more popular. I'll chalk it up to Game of Thrones and True Detective distracting people's attention.

We're All Gonna Die last played live in 2009. They released three full lengths during their initial run and even toured Ireland with Diamond Head, fer Chrissakes (yeah, THAT Diamond Head). So here they are again, playing a few shows, doing a victory lap, whatever you want to call it, and it sounds like they never stopped playing. The amps were cranked and vocalist Jim Healey's voice was in fine form. The rhythm section of Scott Healey on drums and Jesse Sherman on bass provided the foundation for Healey to riff and solo over, and they delivered songs from their entire career, including new/unreleased song "Pleurisy", to an appreciative audience. They're not back full-time, so if you wanna see them live I'd advise catching them now while you can, before another five years pass. Good to see 'em again, and the whole night was solid from top to bottom. They don't call it Allston Rock City for nothing, you know.
