Jimmy Kunes, the singer in the current version of Cactus, does a few different classic rock tribute bands at a bar called American Trash on the upper east side of NYC. The Deep Purple one is by far the best and they did it again this past Saturday. Jeezus, these guys RIP!! First set was most of the Burn album plus "Highball Shooter," "Stormbringer" and even "Gettin' Tighter!" Second set was mainly Machine Head stuff plus "Rat Bat Blue," "Hush" and "Woman From Tokyo."
The entire band is made up of KILLER players. The bassist tours with Nugent and the keyboardists was in Rainbow at some point. The rest are session guys (I think). The drummer was unreal. Did every fill, roll, crash and flamadiddle perfectly. The guitarist was ridiculously excellent. And it was only FOUR DOLLARS!! Heavy rock is really where it's at.
