Sauruman vs. Sauron?
To preempt any complaints about deviations from the book I will just go ahead and say that this, or these movies would be best viewed as existing in a Hobbit-styled universe. I'm really hoping when the dust settles as the movie comes to a close that there is a quiet contemplative bit with Bilbo heading back to the Shire with Gandalf or something - I want my Westerly fairy Led Zeppelin moment.

I'm hoping that after this movie is released, some intrepid soul takes all three movies and makes one phenomenal three hour version, the way it should've been in the first place.

Two days before the final movie is released there is going to be a 9 hour marathon @ IMAX 3D theaters culminating with the 'Battle of Five Armies' movie. I'm going with my gf and the guitarist from Vestal Claret (Simon) Monday the 15th. We're all excited and on board.
I'm full aware that this last movie will play out like a button-mashing video game boss battle with cinematography more akin to animation than real acting and I accept it. It's a small price to pay for this fantastical world to be realized.
Already releasing extended scenes before the movie is out?
