Making it a prequel is a better move than Saul existing post-Heisenberg. Odenkirk is iconic as the character and is reportedly signed on as well.
There's no way it could be Breaking Bad, I'm just unsure of sustainability of turning a colorful side-character from a dark drama into a main character of another show (presumably with a similar tone to Breaking Bad.)
They've earned the benefit of the doubt, however, so I'll see if it even happens. Nothing has been written or shot and AMC can still say no thanks.
