Nebraska 9/10 Loved it. It hit home in a lot of ways, lot of similarities living in a small town and some almost eerily hilarious similarities to my own family. Great acting all around.

eNemy 9/10 Brilliant film. I loved every second of it from start to finish. A really unique experience. Jake Gyllenhaal was mesmerizing. Not for everybody given it's strangeness but a true thriller.

Blue Ruin 8/10 Liked it a lot. It's a thriller set in the south.. great acting great characters.

3 damn good movies I've seen in the last few weeks.

Watched Godzilla and the Amazing Spiderman 2 in the theatres. The TV has been showing repeats of Matthew Broderick's Godzilla (which you can't help but love, even if it was rubbish). There's a long list of movies I'm looking forward to in the summer though.
1. X - men, The Last Stand - Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6acRHWnfZAE
2. How to Train your Dragon 2 - Trailer: http://www.schoolofdragons.com/lang/how ... on/httyd-2
3. Box Trolls - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDr_ZY37RFg

My guilty pleasure is Men in Black though! I can't get enough of the Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith combo!

Prisoners-did not like that one. especially for resemblance to The Killing overacting and just amount of bullshit in general. Jake Gyllenhal is good in everything, not much range but good at what he does.

Super Duper Alice Cooper - really liked it. Very cool, innovative approach to using archive.

Speed Racer - visually very enticing, but skinny Christina Ricci kinda weirds me out.
The Glass Shield - I watched it because ice cube is in it. It isn't very good, and he isn't in it for long. Elliot Gould, M Emmett Walsh & Michael Ironsides are, though.
Ravenous - I had forgotten how darkly funny this movie is.

thinking about watching the lego movie now.

Watched a bunch of flicks on Netflix yesterday.

Shooter 3/5
Good action-movie. It doesn't try to be nything it isn't. Good, old fashioned action with big explosions and bad ass guys.

Gangster Squad 2/5
Overly sylized and Sean Penn is horrendous. But it had its moments. Watch The Untouchables instead.

The Hurt Locker 3/5
Modern war-movies has been done better before, i.e. Black Hawk Down. A good movie though, but maybe not worth 6 Academy Awards.

Red State 4/5
Fun little film from Kevin Smith. Starts out as a creepy cult-horror, but after about half it goes a whole other direction. You're not really ready for anything that happens in it. I dug it.

Gravity

Was expecting a slow speed to this, and went in concerned I would get bored.

Boy, I was wrong. Very captivating. The visual of space was outstanding
Very good movie IMO

Southland Tales - a huge pile of WTF from the director of Donnie Darko. Needs to be seen to be believed.

The Zero Theorem - I have NO idea what it was about, but I adore Terry Gilliam.

Wolf of Wall Street -took me three nights to get through. I don't even know how to rank it. A lot was good. It's a male-bonding movie for sure which caught me by surprise. The delayed fuse 'lude scene was hilarious.

Captain America : The Winter Soldier

Say what you want about the plots of the Marvel Universe, they make some popcorn-eating movies.
Really looking forward to catching Guardians.... ASAP.

Donnie Darko is just about my #1. I tried on two separate occasions to make it through Southland Tales and just didn't care enough, I guess. Tried to force it the second time.

I enjoy Donnie Darko as well. Southland tales is like a car crash, you cannot look away from it.
What is does have, though, is glorious overacting, and absolutely INSANE dialog:

The Grand Budapest Hotel. I've liked all of Wes Anderson's movies more or less, but this one is probably my favorite. Ralph Fiennes was so awesome through the whole thing.

Assault on Precent 13 (original) good not sure if terrible acting helps it or not.
48 hrs. this was a good time if you turn off your brain.
Starman - 7/10
Deathwatch - waste of a good idea
Another 48 hrs. everyone has terrible aim in this. can't believe this got made, it's decent but what the hell is the point. watched with low expectations and they were met so success?

Went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy last week. It was entertaining and all but I sure don't get everyone spaffing their pants over it. Definitely didn't need to rush out to the cinema for it, could've quite happily waited to DL it.

Watched the Zero Theorem the other night though and absolutely loved it. Best new movie i've seen in a loooooooong time.

Rewatched Chinatown for the first time since VHS days too. Amazing film and was great on Blu Ray and a big screen. Would love to see this in a cinema one time

A Most Wanted Man. Adapted from the John LeCarre novel. Directed by Anton Corbijn and starring Philip Seymour Hoffman in his last film.

I read the novel, and thought it was one of LeCarre's lesser books, but I gave it a shot because the cast was great and Corbijn's The American was pretty slick. Overall, I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. It never really ratchets up the tension quite enough to get full attention and Hoffman, while good as always, didn't quite dominate like I'd hoped for his swan song. Still, not a bad flick. Notably, the theater I saw it in, I was easily the youngest person there. Everyone else was AARP age, FWIW.

Arzgarth, you can probably wait for this to be on demand.

Snowpiercer. Based on a comic I never read. The premise is a bit far fetched, but you get past that quickly because the characters and action scenes are so good. Recommended.

Blue Ruin - great movie. story had tension and heart.
Death Wish - same
Star Trek II and First contact-II is better because of the brain bugs and early 80's spaceship decor. The first Borg ep. from TV had way more menace than the movie.
Ricky Jay - Documentary good for magic bits, you don't really get to know anything about him other than his love of magic. The bits are so good I can't even tell it's a trick half the time. The shower story though really got me. How?

The Rover. Guy Pearce and the guy from the Twilight movies. If you're a Road Warrior fan, or a fan of post-apocalyptic road movies in general, I recommend this. Guy Pearce is a haggard, haunted man who gets his car stolen by a bunch of bandits. He goes full psychopath in order to track them down and get his car back and has Twilight guy riding with him through the desolate Australian desert. Very bleak, minimal dialog, with a satisfying ending. Twilight guy actually is really good, too.

Ken Burns Baseball docu.

In the middle of the "Third Inning" episode. I'll prolly watch his Civil War docu next. I really like his pace and the way he frames the subject. Missed it the first time. Funny how some crossover appearances with his brilliant Jazz docu.

His new one on the Roosevelt's is some his finest work.

Cool. Saw on wiki that Ken Burns has a Vietnam docu slated for 2015 release. That should be interesting. I'm definitely a docu>movie type. No need to "suspend disbelief" with docu's.
