Them - French Survival Horror. Not long or gory. Gets the job done. 4/5

The Call of the Cthulhu - HP Lovecraft silent film. Really Good. 4/5

That IS pretty good. Honestly, Lovecraft is damn near impossible to adapt. The source material almost forces you to film it in this style. You have to be kind of out there with it.

It's not like I could recommend it casually, but if you like Lovecraft, give this a whirl.

The People vs. George Lucas was more entertaining than I was expecting. There was plenty of nerd rage for sure, but it was (surprisingly) balanced with almost as much adoration and respect. Star Wars fans sure are gluttons for punishment.

Also watched The Captains, which is a documentary Shatner did that's about his coming to terms with Kirk barely arguably being the one role that will define his career via interviews with other actors that have played Starfleet captains. Pine is barely present, Brooks and Mulgrew are there but don't see much screen time either, and Bacula and especially Stewart see the most time after Shatner. It gets melodramatic at times, but it's worth a watch if you're a fan.

Had a documentary weekend while helping the little lady grade tests.

"The Trials of Henry Kissinger" - Eugene Jareki and Alex Gibney chronicle the crimes of Kissinger. Love the Hitchens interviews and Alexander Haig getting real indignant about Pinochet. It's brief and educational. Recommended.

"American: The Bill Hicks Story" - Pretty good and very stylized use of still photography. I liked how we didn't see any of the interview footage until after Bill got sick. Made me want to trip mushrooms again.

"Being Elmo" - Very touching rags to riches story. Unnecessarily moody at points. All in all, it helps cement Henson as a true American treasure and reconciling losing him.

Indeed it is. Anybody have any recommendations for any good horror movies available on Insta-Flix?

Scary movies?

C.H.U.D.

A really fun horror film and a great performance by Daniel Stern.

Requiem for a Vampire

I they have most of his filmography streaming. I've liked every one I've seen except Living Dead Girl.

Chasing Sleep

Jeff Daniels goes through a Jacob's Ladder type ordeal.

I think Pontypool is still on instant. Give that a go if you haven't already.

The Snowtown Murders. A based-on-a-true story about an Australian mass murderer.
A well shot movie that is dragged down by the weight of it's desire to look good.
The story is minimally explored at best, with almost no character depth and the directors insistence on padding the movie with extended scenery shots. Trim 40 minutes of "style," give the characters a little motivation, and the movie would have a chance. As is, it borders on excruciatingly dull.
2 out of 5.

John Dies at The End - better than I expected, obviously it leaves a bunch out, but still worth the time. Crazy, and silly, but fun.

Savages - Fuck Oliver Stone. Absolute bullshit.

Just got a free month of Netflix (streaming only). Tried watching Breaking Bad but after a season of it I just found it hard to watch, everything just always went to shit.

Just watched "The Art of Flight," some snowboard flick. It hit the spot but nothing special.

Watched the documentary The Queen of Versailles. It's about a time share mogul who loses everything in the crash of 2008 and how this ostentatious family trims down. It's pretty fly-on-the-wall which does make room for sympathy for some of the family members (especially the maid living in their children's playhouse, jeez!)

Worth the watch, even if it's a bit long. Picture something like one of those E! reality shows about rich people except everything goes down the shitter.

Sounds like a dramatic "Arrested Development"

Second Art of Flight. Saw it in theaters when it was released, totally gets you going for the season.

Really liked this doc, even if the family's absolutely reprehensible. Good showing of a family that willfully made sure if had no life skills crashing into ruin, slow motion style.

That Christmas scene in The Queen of Versailles was the most soul-less Christmas morning ever. They already have everything they want.

The Invisible War is a disturbing documentary. There's a mindfuck moment of pure insanity in there. Michael Scott apparently exists. You'll know it when you see it.

Queen of Versailles, and Invisible War were both mentioned on NPR the other day. The producer and someone else involved in Invisible War were interviewed as well, my interest is piqued.

Finding Sugar Man was also mentioned. My boss bought me Cold Fact for christmas, has a heavy Jethro Tull vibe.

Undefeated-documentary about High School Football in Inner City is on demand. Really good.
