Yeah, thats one of the few bigger movies I am actually looking forward to. Scott said the story developed way beyond being a pure Alien-prequel so I hope its smart and not tons of existentialist mumbo jumbo ("Mission To Mars" anyone?)

Yeah it looks pretty good.
Better not fuck up Alien though, that has to be one of my favourite films of all time, and I'm not big on picking favourites!

In a interview he says there is no appearance on the "Alien" in this film:

"No. Absolutely not. They squeezed it dry. He (the xenomorph) did very well. (He laughs) He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"

That's great, but it would have been better if he'd just been honest and said it's the Alien prequel. I guess it's understandable though, given the whoring that's happened to that franchise (which was just a singular story at it's time). His point of seeing his sick H.R. Giger creation at Disneyland is a valid one.

Still, an Alien prequel would have meant more to this 70's/80's horror/sci-fi geek.

space-jockey head, and ring ship?

My guess is it's the first step toward an Alien prequel, a pre-prequel of sorts.

Somewhat related, has anyone seen The Blu Ray of Alien? The original movie is so grainy, and i don't much like the transfer on the DVD i have, just wondering if the "upgrade" is worth it.

I'll be heartbroken if this thing sucks. The trailers have looked very promising so far though, so I'm cautiously optimistic as always.

I am going to stop reading or watching anything about this movie right now. No more story-clues or trailers until I can watch the whole thing. It will either be the best movie of 2012 or a huge disappointment - nothing inbetween.

Yeah, this looks just ridiculously good. When I saw the full trailer I got a full-blown erection.
I love the Alien-vibe in the first teaser. Man, this movie will kick some major ass!
One of my definitive must-sees of 2012 together with The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel and The Avengers.

Everything about this film has got me so damn pumped!
The teaser-trailer, the full trailer, all the viral videos (the omne posted above, the Peter Weyland TED Talks-vid). This will be some truly amazing shit right here.

Oh great, it won't start in Germany until August. I need to cut my internet-connection until then.

Agreed that the trailers are bad-ass, and I'll give it a chance the same way I gave Death Magnetic a chance, but I really hate the bulk of Ridley Scott's post-Blade Runner filmography.

Alien is an undisputed masterpiece, and Blade Runner is a tad overrated but decent, however all things considered I think Tony Scott's a better director.

I apologize but I have to ask. Are you a big Stephen Tyler fan or something?

Been on a media blackout about this since the David viral went out. Not sure if I'll head to the theaters to see it or wait for the home release. I couldn't drag myself to go see The Avengers despite really wanting to, so I doubt I'll make the trip for this. But I don't see how a film with Fassbender and Elba in it can be remotely bad.

You can color my ass pumped to see this action too. ...that reads a little funny but fuck it. Hard core Alien & Aliens geek as well. Hell I own a replica M41-A Pulse Rifle for fuck's sake. I've come around lately to appreciating Alien3 as well. Like most, I didn't like it at all when it came out, and for years afterward (although it is leagues better than Alien Resurrection. Winona Ryder? Are you pulling our dicks?). But as the series got more and more overblown, overdone, and ridiculous with the AVP movies, I came to see Alien3 differently. Now I may get a lambasting, but that film still had great actors, great performances (especially Clemens), a good dark vibe, setting, look & feel, even the soundtrack was outstanding. It was a major downer that they off'd Hicks and Newt and then Ripley dove backward into the furnace at the end, but that was par for the tone. With the lack of firepower and a single xenomorph running around, it had more in common with the first film. What's helped this revisiting for me, is the 2003 director's cut on BluRay which is MUCH better to me (see it if you have not). Scenes, characters, vibe are better and thoroughly fleshed out. It was impossible to follow Scott's and Cameron's movies with something equally as good, but all told, for me at least, taken on its own, the third movie has aged well over these 20 years.

Prometheus really looks to restore dignity to an honored canon. I hope we can all walk out immensely satisfied from the theater...
