Great film.

Very original (and frankly, could have done without the 'Blair Witch' pseudo documentary element), and well done flick. Get over the lame 80's movie sounding title and the poor trailers and rent it.

I guess I should be bothered more by the fake documentary element, but the scenery and the effects take over after the first 'troll' is met up with in the woods. I'm not going to spoil it, but highly recommended. Damn shame too, to see it was immediately snapped up for a US remake, as the characters were great. If you dug last years 'Monsters', it has that feel, but instead of the apocalyptic backdrop, has the cold, barren woods and fields of Finland and takes its time developing quite a story. Just a fun movie.

Yes, fake documentaries are lame by now but this works very well. A remake can only lose.

Really

Also, Holland is not a province of Amsterdam and there are no fjords in Belgium.

Shocking, I know..

TROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL!

Fun movie, although it took a while to warm up. The last sequence is incredible.

I'm also sick of the vertiginous cinema verita camerawork but the movie was good enough that I didn't mind too much.

MINOR SPOILER

I like the moment when the Trollhunter asks the new camerawoman about her religion and, when finding out that she's Muslim, admits he has no idea what that means (as the trolls can smell Christians). Very amusing.

There is some pretty wry humor in this movie, at least through the translation.

I was pretty skeptical of this movie going in, and really enjoyed the hell out of it.
I'm guessing the breathtaking scenery has alot to do with it, but the CGI is effectively done (heh)

If it keeps getting positive reviews, and press it'll have to be re-made.

I like the wry humor a lot too but...

minor spoiler

... the farting in the troll cave was funny as hell too. I know, I am easily amused.

Chris Columbus, he of the first two Harry Potter films and the Home Alone series, has optioned the film for the soda swilling, mall loving American audience.

Hopefully the remake will be about a lovable scamp of a tyke who lives with his recently divorced mother and has moved to a new, theme park creepy town where he's bullied by a larger, somewhat pig-faced boy. A kindly old man who's also frequently tormented - by the father of the bully, no less! - tells him about the trolls who live in the mountains nearby. The two set forth on an amazing journey of thrills, laughs, and discovery - not just about the trolls but about themselves.

I thought the movie was just ok, nothing to write home about really. The idea itself is great, but I felt they could have done more with it.

If the remake is done right it could be a better movie. Can't take place in the US though, Trolls and all that folklore jive just wouldn't work in the new world.
