New season starts this weekend. I won't be able to watch it because I've got company all weekend, but this show get any love in these parts? It's David Simon and all...

Well as a fan of The Wire and a large percentage of the series put out by HBO, I intend to watch it. Haven't even seen more than a 10 second clip so far though. Highly recommended?

I watched the first season On Demand, as it had just ended when we switched from Comcast to AT&T U-Verse, watched it in two days and loved it.

Yeah, well, I'm a shiftless layabout so two days ain't nothing. I think it was ten episodes so 5 hours a day. I did the same with The Pacific around the same time.

It was great, though it was easy to do, it kept me interested, and I think the music helped a lot, music plays a huge role in the show, about half the characters are musicians, partly because the neighborhood it's named after is a musical neighborhood, it's about New Orleans in general post Katrina but the music weaves in and out.

Well if it's not chock-full of crooked cops and earnest drug-dealers then it better have some good music ;)

It doesn't hold a candle to The Wire but who really expected it? I liked the first season a lot and think the second will even better (though Goodman will be missed).

I'm surprised we haven't had many reactions to this season so far in this haunt.

I'll start: I dig it.

I'm under the impression that if you're a fan of music and musicianship you will probably find something to like about this show.

David Simon has turned TV into a fine wine.

I'm still getting caught up on the new season, so I can't really give a current assessment, but I'm also surprised at the low-keyness of this thread. There is a lot of pretty rich storytelling happening here. I think the accolades The Wire/Simon got, basically AFTER the show was off the air, afforded the type of show we're seeing here. Even more patient, deliberate and down-to-earth than the pacing of The Wire. It IS becoming more "Wire-like" though with the acceleration of crime and the possibility of outside corruption sweeping into NOLA. I'm hoping the Nelson Hildago character adds a richness to the series like when Carcetti/City Hall was inserted into The Wire.

This series got renewed for a third season, so some great stuff is coming. Nothing Simon & co does is half-assed.

Eyehategod should show up in a future episode. Perhaps that would create traffic here. That and I would dig it. Simon's son is in Dead Meadow after all...

Actually, it's Simon's nephew(Jason) who is in Dead Meadow.

I'm behind on Treme. I have this marathon attitude about it, one hour at a time isn't enough, I need it in chunks. I watched the Wire a season on DVD in 3-5 episode chunks.

Thanks for the correct.

I feel you on marathoning Simon. I'm just a junkie.

I'm either two or three episodes behind right now. I didn't watch anything last week.

I pretty much marathoned the first season. I waited until a couple weeks before HBO was going to take it down before watching it. That is my plan with 'Game of Thrones' as well. It kind of becomes a pain in the ass once something become appointment TV. I was so obsessed with The Wire though, that I'd stay up to midnight and watch the early downloads when HBO began previewing the next week's ep the same night the latest one was shown on their channel. Man, I got a lot of mileage out that show. This one, not so much.

They had Stanton Moore in the first season, who's played with C.O.C. Since Pepper is a local, I don't think it'd be a stretch to see him show up in one of these down the road. I know he owns a bar down there at least.

I'm a huge fan of The Wire, and I liked the first season of Treme, but I feel like it's lacking something. The Wire was a slow burn so perhaps I need to be patient, but Treme could use a little more fire IMO. I'll probably wait for dvd for season 2 so it'll be a while.

I read it is 11 episodes, with the final one happening this Sunday. I'm still about three eps behind. The crime and corruption threads definitely stokes my 'The Wire' jones. I do have to say they could have completely cut out the Chief Lambreaux and son threads and I would have been better off. There had better be a good pay-off brewing there. And I'm saying that as a huge fan of Lester Freamon.

Finished season two. Liked it, didn't love it. Kind of surprised this series hasn't captured my attention, as obsessed as I was over The Wire. I probably don't need to see this second season ever again and I'll put The Wire on every couple of years.

The whole ballad of the good nature and resilency of the people of New Orleans only goes so far. I found myself wanting more of Colson/the police,,, or The Wire, I guess. The Davis, Sonny threads, whatever. And Big Chief Albert and son can eat a dick.

Good series/season, but not meeting my (high) expectation entertainment-wise.

This actually happened in the current season! They had about 72 seconds, half of which were devoted to a douche crowd surfing in the club, but it was still pretty great. Same douche has made several Goatwhore, Crowbar, Hawg Jaw, etc... name-drops (either verbal or via stickers or t-shirts) throughout the season.

Third season is probably the best so far, the most "The Wire" like at least. Season finale is this Sunday and some tense plots involving police, police corruption and general thuggery are going to come to a head.

Watched this while it was airing up to about episode 6 , then last weekend while I was sick I watched the whole third season. Marathon viewings seem to work best with this show, all the information is still in my head and I still want to know what will happen next. This was my favorite season so far, the crime/corruption aspect really came to the forefront. It was nice to see some New Orleans metal love, just to bad the dude who brought it to us was abit of a douche.
