Moon was outstanding..Alien will always be my fave, as it was the first real sci-fi blended with horror I locked into and still is effective.

I like it when the desolation of space is captured by the film maker. Was scrolling through the wiki lists from the 50's to 2010 and there really isn't alot of true 'space movies' without being futuristic earth or dumb laserfests, the exception being JJ Abrams 2009 Star Trek which was fun.

my list:

Alien
Moon
Outland
Event Horizon
Pitch Black
Titan AE
Fantastic Planet
Sunshine
Apollo 13

I agree with Moon and Sunshine being on there representing the new school of sci-fi movies. There's too much action sci-fi, which isn't bad, but we need variety.

Alien
Aliens
Solaris (both 1972 and 2002 versions)
2001: A Space Odyssey
Most of the Star Trek movies (I make no apologies lol)

I'm glad you mentioned Solaris, (both of them), because it's a great story that gets overlooked in the Sci-Fi arena.

Star Wars episodes 4,5 and 6
2001 and 2010
Alien (all of them, but the first one was a game-changer)
Moon (low budget and loved it)
Forbidden Planet (probably the best 'old' sci-fi flick ever)

and last but not least...SPACEBALLS!

Myself and only one other friend really liked it, everyone else I talked to hated it. They said it was boring and slow... But I love the psychological shit and really got into the movie.
