People are afraid of it because they believe that it's considered selling your soul to the devil. I am starting to believe, damned...

A lot of misconceptions and exaggerated claims about tritones, most of the traditional opposition to this interval has much more to do with voice-leading rules than satan. Go read Johann Fux's book on counterpoint and start working through the exercises...tritones don't work well in counterpoint! The reason it works well in a blues and metal context is that it is being used in melodic context and not a harmonic context and functions as a passing tone or a temporary tension that gets resolved in the next riff.

But does playing these notes invoke 'The Devil'?

No more than playing any other notes does.

In my experience, no.
I often incorporate the Tri-Tone and it has yet conjured up any of my ex's.
