Eh. Why not? Very respectable run of 9 brilliant to good studio albums. Plus loads of b-side single tracks to indulge in. Been on a listening binge lately. Drugs def a part of Robert Smith's life and songwriting, so no reason why this thread cannot be part of a Stoner/Drug Rock website discussion forum.

Faith & Disintegration my fave albums. Both helped me thru 4 years of being miserable in the US Army.

Brilliant band whose catalogue ranges from stark minimalism(17 seconds) to unabashed pop(Head On The Door), to proto industrial/noise(Pornography) to an opus of distortion rock(Disintigration). Robert Smith is a musical genius on equal grounds as Bowie. Less diverse sure, but more successful in his endeavors. There is a great interview somewhere on youtube -which I can't seem to find again - where Robert Smith talks about the band's first festival show after the release of Seventeen Seconds and the roster was ALL metal bands but Motorhead pulled them into their dressing room and treated them like kin and gave them speed. And then they went killed it.

My third concert ever was the "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" tour at Madison Square Garden and it was LOUD AS FUCK.

The nihilistic gloom of the 17/Faith/Porn trifecta def has something to do with the "It's Grimm up North." pathos and/or the steady doom of the drop forges of Birmingham/the Midlands. Will have to try to find that interview. Lemmy was Da Man.

Caught them play in NZ in 2007. Not a huge fan, but still enjoy them. I was absolutely floored by their live performance. They played for 3 plus hours. Captivating the entire time. Danced non stop with my babe & her friends.

One of my favorite bands at this point. It took me awhile to get into them, I kind of lumped them in with the stuff my sister listened to in high school, which was of course un-cool to me because I was stubborn, angst-y, insecure and trying too hard. Of course, I knew the "hits", and I thought that "Just Like Heaven" was godly, and "Friday I'm In Love" and "Love Song" blew goats. If only I'd bothered to listen to the rest of those albums!!!

I started hanging out with/living with/getting close to the "goth crowd" when I was 20, and one of my good friends played me "Disintegration." I had no idea they were that good, and it was all over from there....

When Palace got back together and put out our three song demo a couple years back, someone who had it wrote to me, "The first two heavy songs are really good, but the third song sucks because it sounds too much like The Cure." I just wrote back "COOL!!!!"

We're kicking around the idea of doing a Cure cover, actually....

Certain area of Purgatory reserved for bro d00ds who are too cool to like certain bands cuz it's "Chick music" or whatevers.

"Friday i'm in Love" is the biz. A lovely Pop song. Nothing wrong with that. Crazy to finally realize just how many of Robert's songs are about falling in and/or out of. He obviously kept himself busy with that.

Nah, I listened to the music my female friends listened to, in fact, I remember trading music with them....but my sister's music?? That was just going too far. Sibling rivalry and such. Much of it was about having to share the stereo/TV with her - I also disliked The Little Mermaid and My So-Called Life at the time, because those were what she constantly watched.

Oh yeah, I dig the hell out of "Friday I'm In Love" now that I'm not a teenager!!

Have you ever read the list of what your taste in music says about you as a person?? It's meant to be funny, though it says, "If you like The Cure, you fall in love way too easily." Hah!!

Oh, yeah. And don't forget all the brilliant guitar work & song writing Robert Smith did with Siouxsie & the Banshees. Big reason why Hyaena is me fave studio LP and Nocturne kicks so much ass. Even played sitar on a b-side track.

I'm going to see them in June at Madison Square Garden and pretty excited about it.

I can't ever get enough of this song.

Killer. Have fun. By all accounts, The Cure puts on an epic show. I need to see them before Robert Smith decides to pack it in.

Saw them at Cameron Indoor Stadium in '89 (GO DUKE!)

Pretty much gave up on them after that (not because of the show!), was buried in a heavy Led Zeppelin phase (which everyone needs)
Agree on Like Cockatoos, my fav along with A Forest

Not familiar with the bulk of their earlier records, probably worth checking out, may be my speed

I was a big fan of the early records, I loved listening to Faith or Pornography after an electrified buzzed evening, but they lost me when they got poppier in the mid 80's.
I did get a eye raise from my high school girlfriend's dad when I gave her a copy of "Let's Go To Bed" for her birthday.

Last year when I got the new Eat Static record I was surprised to find Robert Smith on a track.

the Cure should get co-writing credits for the final three Isis albums.

I never liked The Cure, as I hated most "current" music in the 80s when I was in high school. Plus, my taste isn't near as varied as most of the people here.
However, I do like when bands cover their songs. Two of my favorites are:

Recently heard that "World War" track for the first time on the Three Imaginary Boys Deluxe Ed. DCD. I think it could qualify as a proper "proto-DOOM" track from 1978. Hmmmmmm.

I remember getting the soundtrack to "The Crow" and thinking this was awesome, then being disappointed that they mostly did not sound like this. Took me many years to "make my peace" with The Cure. I think Disintegration was the one I heard much later that made me rethink my Cure-loathing. Still not a huge fan, but I like them better than their arch rivals the Smiths (sorry Dinger).

I only have Faith and 17 seconds vinyl. Feels like being inside Ally Sheedy's purse from 'The Breakfast Club.'

Their underground movement was with faith and pornography before hitting the mainstream like what so many other alternative/new wave rock bands or artists did in 1982.

LENE LOVICH was one of those artists that recorded probably the best underground alternative/new wave rock masterpiece of all time in 1979 titled FLEX. Goth like, melancholy,in love sadness, bit weird, darkish, like a witch, and at times she may have her eyes wide opened and squeak like a bird or squeal like a monkey but her songs are amazing before she hit the mainstream.

BIRD SONG is like centuries ahead of its time-
