This is excellent stuff. Thanks for posting it.

As an aside, is anyone still grappling with the confusion of appreciating a synth band from Pittsburgh made up of two guys with the name Zombi and also a synth band from France made up of two guys named Zombie Zombie. Can I get a little bit of clarity in my old age...

I love 'em of course and am looking forward to getting the new album in about five-six weeks! They've pretty much been my favorite band (especially if you count the side projects) over the last decade, so I've held true during the "dark times". They posted this photo of them from 10 years ago on their Facebook wall this weekend and it's how I'll always remember them.

The new album is pretty good! Nice to hear the bass guitar prominently figured into the proceedings. It'll be interesting to see/hear what gets put into the new live shows off of it...

Red the new album is def growing on me. Immediately I liked that they went back to Surface to Air era sounding, with some progression (although I wouldn't mind more progression from what I already love about Zombi). The opener, Pillars of the Dawn is killer, maybe my favorite opener of any of their albums. If I had to play 1 Zombi track to a friend that never heard them...that would be a good starting point for me. It sounds like, if Genesis wrote parts of Los Endos from Trick of The Tail today. The rest of the album is growing on me fast. I get to see them in less than 2 weeks for the first time. And it's going to be a night over in providence RI sans kids and wife. Friend coming up from Philly for it. Will be baked and perfect mode for prog.

I gotta be honest that they're going to put on incredible show and while I dig the new album, I'm not feeling it as much as their earlier works. It is probably just me. I feel like they dialed back from the sci-fi/synth vibes to bring Steve's great bass playing up front. It could work, but I actually like the approach on 'Escape Velocity' more. They're hella smart fellers though, so I'm sure once they get on the road it's gonna rule and they'll do some more killer recordings going forward.

The ULTIMATE Zombi opener will always be "Challenger Deep". If I was flying to the moon or Mars in a rocket ship, this what I would want played over the rocket's audio.

I love a swirling synth mess! From their last (non-bass guitar) album:

I heartily dig on "Shape Shift..." "Surface to Air" is a big one for me and this new one brings a lot of that back. But I actually can't pick a favorite of their works. "Escape Velocity" is awesome too...just a chilled, trippy record that sucker was.

Just getting around to this. Never been a Zombi fan but liking this one. I think they are so much better with the bass.

Thanks JK. Will update. And if anyone feels motivated, send me your email and I'll send a picture of their setup to post here. I can't do it from my phone. If interested. Just got baked

Zombi was insane last night. AE is maybe the best pure drummer I've seen live. Dumb founded by his performance. Place my buddy and I saw them at in providence was like a fucking recording studio. 125 capacity auditorium. Sound was superb. Incredible set so worth the wait of about 8 years. This is pretty accurate below, order might be a little off. But basically they played 80% of the new album and 4 of the 5 songs from Surface to Air (no night rythyms, my favorite Zombi song :(

It was all that and better than my expectations.

Pillars of the dawn
Mission Creep
Interstellar Package
Total Breakthrough
Shadow Hand
Metaverse
Toroidal Vortices
Challenger Deep
Diffraction Zone
Digitalis
Legacy
Surface to Air

I bought the new album on tape, my buddy got the LP. And 2 wicked 80s Zombi shirts

That sounds fucking incredible, Dnice. That's a HUGE set list, must've lasted quite a while. Psyched to see Interstellar Package on there, one of my favorites from the new album.

Glad you had a great time, thanks for the review! You've made me even more psyched for Thursday.

JK ...interstellar package is my favorite track on the new album, and it was one of the best live songs of the night. So was Pillars of the dawn and all of surface to air. Played for like an hour and 10-20 minutes. Pinkish Black, musically were pretty cool. The vocals are kind of meh for me. Have a great time. Post a Setlist if u can. Peace, D

+2 vote on Interstellar Package being the best track on the album. Siberia II comes in a close second.

That's the bummer about seeing them at this fest; they're only gonna get to play 50 minutes, while they're playing at least a half-hour more on these headlining dates. Still, I hate travel and San Antonio is only halfway across the country, versus ALL the way across the country for the rest of this tour. Hopefully, they'll do the West Coast in 2016 (seems like they would).

Interstellar Package II is easily my favorite track on the new album.

Our own forum contributor kojak has you covered on this! I was there with him for this and it'll be one of my top 20 (or 10 shows) I take to my grave! This was two years ago in St. Louis. While I didn't actually meet kojak, but I am forever in his debt for doing such a great job of documenting this! That was a strange day of travel and various encounters for me. One of the best days of my entire life, truthfully speaking.

Ended up buying this one and just got my copy in the mail today. Gave it a listen earlier and really liking it so far. Pleasant surprise.

Interstellar Package is quickly becoming my 2nd favorite Zombi song behind Night Rythyms. I think it might be Zombi at their musical and songwriting peak.
