On my bike ride to and from school I listen to a lot of music, and lately have been thinking about the idea of a "perfect" with respect to a particular genre/subgenre of music. I consider Eyehategod to be a "perfect" band. From the vocals to the overall tone to the riffs to the lyrics to the record art, they nailed it. On top of that their newest record is as good, if not better, than anything they have ever done. What band do you consider to be perfect?

The first EHG album never really clicked with me.

Sabbath up to 'Sabotage'
AC/DC between 'Let There Be Rock' and 'Back in Black'
NEUROSIS up to 'Times of Grace'
DEVO up to 'Oh No, It's DEVO!'
Maiden up to 'Piece of Mind'
Beastie Boys up to 'Ill Communication'
Zombi up to 'Spirit Animal'
B.O.C. up to 'Secret Treaties'
KYUSS between 'Blues for the Red Sun' and '...and the Circus Leaves Town'

The most perfect band and album???

The answer is Atomic Rooster during their first 3 albums!

Especially In Hearing Of, the most perfect hard rock/metal album you'll ever hear. Has Pete French on vocals of Leaf Hound fame and everything about this album is 100% perfect.

The first two Captain Beyond albums are "perfect" as well.

Speaking of KYUSS, Scott Reeder wrote me back again today! lol I told him about my upcoming interview with Bobcat Goldthwait and then he told me he met Bobcat while hanging out with Nirvana during the In Utero tour.

That's what I love about threads like this, being reminded of bands I need to check out. Atomic Rooster for the road trip to the mountains today. Cheers!

Yup. And to add...

Minutemen
Band of Gypsys
A Tribe Called Quest (pre-Beats, though they had some good stuff on that and The Love Movement)
Godflesh (with GC, so not Hymns)
Goatsnake
Mastodon (pre-The Hunter)
Fugazi
ZZ Top (before they found synths)
Dinosaur Jr. (with Lou and Murph)
Meshuggah

That original The Police run of LPs just keeps sounding better and better all the time.

This comes closest so far, in my book. I wouldn't agree with any of the others, though hey, that's just like your opinion, man....

You're not alone on Pelican. I have progressively become a big fan of theirs as their career has developed, more so now than the lauded s/t days. Saw them live this past New Years, and watched one of the best rock performances I've seen in years. I would not change a thing about them. At times, it felt like I was listening to prog metal, almost Rush-esgue instrumental. I realize most left them in the rear view years ago...but am still squarely on board.

Others I hold in highest esteem (not necessarily because they have zero flawless songs, but that the chemistry is near perfect);

Failure
Shiner
Keelhaul
Zombi (also Steve Moore solo)
Traindodge
70s Genesis up to Wind & Wuthering
70s Steely Dan up to Gaucho

Wow. Pelican put on one of the absolute worst live performances I have ever seen. The drummer was off by entire beats, it was so noticeable that my non-musician girlfriend asked me why the drumming was so whack. They were so god-awful, it pretty much turned me off from listening to them after that.

The saddest part was that it was only about half awful, like some of it was brilliant, and then suddenly it was a trainwreck. That just made it that much more painful to witness.

So it's definitely weird for me to see them on this list, and lauded as a great live band. Perhaps I caught an off night, though I honestly have to say that it was really, really terrible.

Hm. Well, I've seen them twice, and the performances I saw go back to the EP and Australasia days, but those shows were great IMO, and I've really enjoyed everything they've done since then. I know the drummer received a ton of criticism on SR, but I've watched alot of youtube shows from recent years and I think they sound pretty damn tight and in the pocket. And heavy.

I know he's a little out of frame here, but still sounds and looks pretty good to me:

I'll check it out later, interested in what they've been up to. The one time I saw them, it was on the City Of Echoes tour, so that was awhile back. Perhaps I saw them on an off night, like I said, or their drummer has practiced/improved. I haven't really followed them since then, because it was, well, a real turn off at the time.

You, sir, are correct!

Actually the most perfect band was Funkadelic with Eddie Hazel on guitar . They were on the same level as Black Sabbath.
