Loving this album. Surpassing what were some of the highest expectations I have had for an album in years. So damn good and without any doubt the album of the year.

VERRRRY worth listening to all the way through. I pre-ordered almost immediately. Truly exceeded expectations which were pretty fucking high.

Sublime stuff as usual. Uncannily somehow always able to use the studio like an additional instrument.

I got it today. It's gonna take a few spins to sink in. Marrow is indeed a killer track.

Am I the only one not impressed with this? It seems to me they're stuck in a mold. The Great Cessation was amazing but both Atma and Clearing... just sounds like repetition of Cessation to me. I mean, it's not bad, it just doesn't do anything for me.

This album is a masterpiece, especially last two tracks and especially Marrow. Marrow makes me cry like a little girl. For reals. TeArs.

Can't think of a more "On the Road"-esque way to see Europe/the rest of the world than in a touring professional band. Envious of that alone! Mike & Travis deserve loads of success. Awesome d00ds. Tasty players. Need to get off me arse and check them out live again ASAP.

I was not a fan of Atma, but I really like the new one and may eventually grow to love it. Heard 3/4ths of it live on Sunday and it all sounded great.

Edit: Just read the interview Red posted... Mike is a true gentleman and a metal warrior. One of those guys you want to succeed because he's such a solid human being.

yob cant be stopped. they destroy everything live. and they are so humble and down to earth about the waste they lay.

Gotta gush some more about Mike: He always made time to connect with the people who showed up for gigs. Taking the time to chat with a dyed-in-the-wool Introvert like myself took extra effort. Then seeing my SR handle along with Mr. Red and the Witch Mt. guys in the liner notes of the original Elaborations of Carbon CD issue was way beyond cool.

I am the complete opposite. For me, The Great Cessation is my least favorite album from them. Decent, but not on par with the rest of their catalog. I really like Atma and love Clearing the Path to to Ascend, which I think is their best work yet. Other albums might have moments I like a little more, but as a whole I think Clearing the Path to Ascend is just about perfect, great from start to finish.

How I rank their catalog:

Clearing the Path to Ascend
The Illusion of Motion/Unreal Never Lived (tie)
Catharsis
Atma
Elaborations of Carbon
The Great Cessation

I don't know how you can hear "Nothing to Win" (or even "Prepare the Ground") and get that it sounds like anything from The Great Cessation. But maybe that's me.

I thought the latest was a major step up in quality. Much more nuanced and layered, which made it heavier.

Saw 'em earlier in the week. Got to the gig in time to see YOB, had my face crushed, left before Enslaved hit the stage. In bed by 11.

I hope they made special tour shirts for the YOB/Witch Mountain tour. "StonerRock.com Elders of Doom (not featuring Elder)"

What arz said about the layering. I'm not a huge Yob fan, but I'm def in their corner. However, bended doom power chords just doesn't keep my attention for very long. The layering adds much more depth to my ears. Not sure it's necessarily heavier, I just think it's more interesting. I listened to the song "Marrow" yesterday for the first time...and after 1 listen, I understand it's praise. Killer song.

I didn't mean that I don't like Yob. I love Yob just as much as the next guy, got all their albums and seen them live. And I agree that Mike is a great guy, talked with him a little when they played in Sweden on the Atma-tour. And I also wish them all the success, cuz they absolutely deserve it. I'm just saying that I don't really get the hype about Clearing The Path.

I just felt like my last post got misunderstood and didn't know which one to quote so I just wrote a post and thought people would get it anyway. Apparently not.
