"...but it also has a terrific elephants marching riff. Maybe it’s a stoned elephant trying to march in a straight line and failing? Whatever, it’s still a behemoth!!!"

In 2007 this would have been great.

Pretty heavy. I like what I hear so far.

Don't think it'd be fair to EWiz to make any kind of judgement based on a low bit rate soundcloud (shit)stream thru dodgy computer speakers/earbuds/cans.
/2 cents

Hmmmm. Well, after giving this track proper attention.....not feeling it anymore than i did Black Mehses. So it's Time to Meh for me. I have no problem continuing to enjoy vintage EWiz. All bands once mighty drop off sooner or later. It's just the way of teh world, sadly.....

this sucks.

when was the last time they put any effort into not sucking? umm..Dopethrone is 13 years old? and they havent done much worth a shit since. Be realistic..sure I agree, a shitty mp3 an album is not..but if this is the "single' that sells you the album, I will borrow basement boys phrase: "you have shit magnets for ears"

they suck.

I'm liking it. Not a lot technical going on, but I like the atmosphere they create. I like the lo-fi, "recorded-in-an-English-dungeon" production they've used on the last two albums. I think if this were a new band, more of us would be praising it...or blasting it for sounding like E-wiz? You know what to expect with these guys. It's nothing new, but it still works for me. "It's a Satanic, drug thing..."

I don't know, I liked it. It's got a completely different vibe than Black Mass. I am officially getting my hopes up for the new album.

I dig the song an don't think it sucks at all, but I am a fan boy. That being said, I hated Black Masses but loved Witchcult Today. The drums on the new track really sound wrong for the song and how heavy it is, they have no pop, no power, and no thunder. I get the whole retro thing, but the drums sound like they were played by a dude on Xanex and then recorded at 5am in the morning after a long night and they were tired and just said screw it, we'll use the next take and we won't really try to get them in the mix properly. And they are mixed to low. I usually don't bitch about drums at all, but I'm not the only who has noticed that.

Not bad at all imo.

I really hated the production on Black mass so this sound a lot better.

Huh, I think that Black Masses is best produced album, by far. Witchcult also sounded fantastic.

Dopethrone sounds awful, to me that's by far their weakest album.

I'm not big on this song, it's not as catchy as anything off the last two, and I don't really feel the riff.

I'm going to withhold judgments on the production, because I'm listening to it streamed off the internet, on laptop speakers, though I'm not digging the drums at all. Greening is not a very good drummer, I was really surprised that they took him back, and was not at all surprised when he was hastily dismissed from the band.

I have a problem with production on most of their albums except self-titled, we live and witchcult today. witchcult being the best produced EW album to date imo. Those albums sound much cleaner and punchier. Everything else is pretty much just one big, loud sonic mush...I have a difficult time distinguishing riffs on Dopethrone and Come My Fanatics and vocals are too buried in the mix, distorted and borderline irritating (especially on dopethrone where he sounds like a shrieking half-dead cat). Black Masses is far worst produced doom/stoner/rock/metal album I've ever heard by such a better known band. I've heard obscure crust albums produced better than that. So my problem was always their production. I hoped that will change after Witchcult but it seems things are only getting worse.

Best way of dealing with Jus' terrible 'singing'.
I'm constantly surprised by people taking issue with the way Dopethrone sounds, there's a few of you, so it can't just be one bad copy.

I've heard it on all kinds of formats, all kinds of stereos from hi-fi to headphones.

It's just not how I want an album to sound. The drums sound like ass, the vocals sound even worse, and the guitar and bass tones are shrill and irritating. It sounds big and in the red, though not in a way that is pleasant to my ears. Same with Come My Fanatics.

Doomborn has it right, the s/t, Witchcult Today, and We Live all are much punchier, nuanced, and livelier. Those are probably their three best produced.

I like lo-fi recordings, so I really appreciate the way Black Masses came out. It's warm and it's atmospheric, it has real character, rather than the "watch us try to be the heaviest band in the world, fail miserably and fuck up our recordings in the process" that are Dopethrone and Fanatics. It's a shame, because those albums have some great songs that are really hindered by poor production choices.

I'll agree that We Live is the best produced of the lot so far. Will also agree that Jus' harsher/buried/vokillz detract. I much prefer his cleaner/mournful singing style.

But you gotta hand it to him as he's not content to make the same album twice. Every EWiz album is fairly distinct from each other, esp. in production values and overall vibe goes. Much like cult horror films. Sometimes the elements all "work" together to make the whole better than the parts. Sometimes it's just an unorganized mess.

As an EW hater, I actually kinda dig this track.

I have to say I like this, especially how it gets mega stoned as it goes on. Looking forward to the new album.

I kind of wrote these guys off, but on a lark I listened to this last night and surprisingly dug it quite a bit. I was morbidly curious about what a train-wreck they'd become after reading the Decibel article (Jus' incessant moaning about everything), but at first blush this appears to be another consistent/decent album from E-Wiz. Jus' vocals kind of wears you out after awhile though. Luckily he doesn't sing a whole lot on it.

Dopethrone has always been my least favorite EW LP...I think it is the vocals I dislike most...I dig the Liz era way more than the previous stoner/sludge one...I really like the new LP...Funeral Of Your Mind is a freaking awesome track...heavy evil psych...

I've listened to the new album quite a bit, unfortunately, i don't think it's very impressive. Not a patch on 'Witchcult Today' and i find it a real chore to listen through. That's always a bad sign. I think the production could have been better as it's very noisy and indistinct. All rather dense and it almost feels difficult to listen to or pick out the parts. If the record was shorter that would have helped i think. 'Incense For The Damned', 'SadioWitch' and 'We Love The Dead' are about the only songs i like or stick in the mind. I really hate that water sample at the beginning. Something about it just doesn't work or sound appropriate. Still, it makes a change from the usual bong sounds that permeate the genre. Although i must say i do love that they reused the famous "when you get into one of these groups..." sample from Dopethrone as a way to end the album. In light of the many band member departures since, that's quite interesting actually.

I actually like it a lot. My biggest complaint is that it's rather long in the tooth...

Well said. Can't be bothered with that dissonant/abrasive/industrial sheen. Never been a fan of NIN, SWANS, Ministry, Godflesh, Neurosis, etc. and i've tried. Only major exception are the 3 Skinny Puppy CDs i own. And for me Skinny Puppy has more to do with Depeche Mode than SWANS. "Difficult to listen to" is a good way to put it. (Whoa. Thoughtful music discussion? Reminds me of thee SR.com Halcyon Dayz ov yore!)

I gotta say, the record grows on ya. I've been through it a bunch of times now, and I dig it. Way better than Black Mass.

Have to disagree with that. Black Masses had killer songs and melodies, this one gets a little plodding and tedious. I like the production of Black Masses a lot more too.

Still a good album from them, though not in the same league as the last three.
