greatness. by far best thing they've done.

I definitely agree that's a great album, though I think I actually prefer Run Thick in the Night.

Been listening to Eat the Low Dogs a ton lately and starting to waver on my initial stance. Love both albums but maybe beginning to prefer Eat the Logs to Run Thick In the Night.

Streaming in 5.1 mostly. It's been my morning routine for weeks now. Discovering a bunch of stuff. Haven't got sick of it yet. Need to grab Syro CD this weekend.

Played a show with these fellas as they toured through last night. Sweet dudes and epic riffage in a postmetal context.

Aphex Twin-Syro (2014)

13 years since the last Aphex Twin release. It was worth the wait. Mad flavor for days this! Sick BASS/production values too. Definitely mastered to bump in the car and club. Never seen VU meters get such a work-out before, heh.
Does get the award for most worthless CD packaging ever though. RDJ is a bit of a prat.

Casino versus Japan

Brilliant downtempo electronica/IDM from the US. Discovered via PANDORA listening. Thanks, PANDORA!

Hungers - The Unobserved

Enslaved meets crust...what a filthy and gritty guitar tone to boot.

Satyricon -- s/t

I know this came out last year. Got around to it late. I think the overwhelming response to this album is that it is lame, either because of the analog production or the perception that the songs are weak/not heavy/not fast enough/ect. All I know is I've listened to this one a lot and I enjoy it quite a bit. No, it's nothing like Nemesis Divina, and it is a little strange to hear Frost play live (real sounding) drums, and stranger still to hear a song like "Phoenix" with some dude singing cleanly like from some late 90's alt-rock band. I can't explain it, but it works for me. They haven't totally gone off the black metal reservation such as Ulver or the like; there are songs on this that would fit with earlier albums. Overall, I think it works best to listen to it in it's entirety because it has a consistent atmosphere (warmth + darkness) that has appeal.

Anyways, did anyone else give this a chance?

I gave up on them after 'Vulcano'. Any band attempting "black n' roll" or "death n' roll" just ultimately sounds corny to me. I guess they've gotten bigger than ever with this new style (at least in Europe), so I'd give them a shot live if they ever got their act together and toured over here. They were supposed to do the Housecore Horror Fest, but apparently bailed.

I'm listening to the new 1349 for the first time right now. It's pretty solid.

What fucking RULES is the new Blood of Kingu! A lot of fun.
