III is really fucking great. Killer hooks, killer vox from Lori and killer atmosphere/production. Narrowly edges out thee classic Busse Woods as my fave. Early stuff is essential listening for this genre too, of course.

!!! GET 'EM ALL !!!

Busse Woods. Not only good, but one of the best from that era.
That album maintains the yeah.

Their half of the split with The Mystick Krewe of Clearlight is their best material imo. Followed by Busse Woods.

The general complaint regarding the early stuff is that the production is bushleague, her vocals are too goofy/dramatic (and too up front in the mix), and that overall they just sounded like Vitus outtakes with female vocals.

The production was upped on the mid period stuff courtesy of man's ruin & Billy Anderson. Her vocals became more subdued & tasteful as well.

The majority of people will say Busse Woods is the best for nostalgic reasons, and because, well, it really is a very cohesive & ground breaking, seminal album. But it's pretty hard to make an argument against III being their most mature, well rounded material. The production smokes Busse Woods, and Lori never sounded better.

It's a shame they fizzled out after that one. Anyone know of any new material or a tour on the horizon?

The split with Altamont is pretty good too.

Exactly. Their catalogue isn't exactly huge. Get both full lengths and crank the shit out of them back to back. You won't be disappointed. I just read today that a new record is on the way too.

Billy Anderson has been documenting a lot of his sessions and schedule on Facebook since he moved to Portland and he mentioned he's headed to the bay area to record Acid King after he is done with the Pallbearer record here in Portland.

Busse Woods is the best one. It's actually my favorite thing the Man's Ruin label ever put out, and I've heard most of it. But to echo what a lot have said; their whole catalog is sterling.

III and Busse Woods is all I need from the back catalog from Acid King. Both are great, III is my favorite.

Can not wait for a new album. First I learn about new Yob. Then I learn about new OM. Now I learn about new Acid King.....this is going to be a great year for new music.

Awesome news and with Billy Anderson along for the ride who can fault that! Having just had a peek on their fb page i see there are some behind the scenes photos and video clips of the band in the studio too.

Very cool. Topping III will be quite an achievement.
I'd enjoy hearing them throw in some groovy late 60's biker flick samples ala Buzzov*en/E-Wiz on the next one. Have they done that yet? Anyway, Acid King is the perfect West Coast Stoner/Doom outfit! Stoked that they are in the studio again.

Such good news. I just turned a 23 yo kid I work with on to Acid King. She's a "metal head" but not the right kind. She is starting to see the ways of the doom. And she digs it.

Had an extra long ride to work today due to the snow in the Philadelphia area, so, I ended up listening to about 75% of the Acid King discography. That made the drive into work tolerable and pretty bad ass.

Not quite sure if that cover art is "So Bad, it's Good" or just plain Stoner awesome. Either way, i'll be buying the CD ASAP. Fave band.

They play pretty regularly in Europe, a tour last summer included some dates with Spirit Caravan and they are going back this April and playing Desertfest and Heavy Days in Doomtown. They did a one-off show in NYC two years ago.
