One of the first, if not thee first, Noir Hip-Hop albums. Massive stuff. 2005 Geffen remaster sounds incredible.

If there's a more fucked-up, sinister, & dark while still hooky/listenable mid-90's Hip-Hop CD, i haven't heard it yet.

I've not seen it mentioned but I'm a big Themselves fan, so I'd say Themselves - 'Them' (1999) is an interesting listen. And, Deep Puddle Dynamics - 'The Taste of Rain... Why Kneel?' (2000) is certainly left-field and worth catching up with.

Other than those two, I have a few records I've liked recently:

Rob Sonic - Alice in Thunderdome
Camu Tao - King of Hearts
Vince Staples - Summertime '06
ASAP Rocky - AT.LONG.LAST.ASAP
J Dilla - Donuts
The O'Mys - A Humble Masterpiece (RnB)
Billy Woods - History Will Absolve Me
Saul Williams - S/T
Warm Brew - Natural Spirit
Pac Div - The Div
Warren G - Regulate G Funk (classic!)
Sam Lachow - Huckleberry
Nacho Picasso - Black Narcissus
Miguel - Kaleidoscope Dream (more RnB)

More of a modern sound represented here.

No worries man. Their lyrics and beats reek like they're from a different world entirely.

It's official!!! The icon and legend, DMC of RUN fucking DMC, will be a part of my upcoming History of Hip-Hop Powermixx Part 2 radio special next weekend!!!!

I'm also writing a song with him.

!!

I can't believe this, pinch me. Stepping back on my turntables for this one! I'm actually putting together my own hip hop mixtape featuring DMC himself, and this time around I think I'm gonna start busting my own rhymes over the mix. Thinking about penning a diss towards Iggy Azalea and the industry lol.

Any requests for some more old school songz please mention them here.

This will always be my go-to old skool hip-hop album! I don't think there have ever been lyrics quite like on this...and the re-mix album had awesome samples...Skynyrd, Floyd, Scarface, etc. Fuckn classic! Not a huge fan of the genre but I respect what they do. I took my 20 yr. old son to see Cypress Hill in Knoxville this year and was unexpectedly blown away! B's delivery was so infectious, rabid and spot on...how the hell he spits those rhymes out while smoking that much nuclear-strength weed is beyond me! Also like NWA, Public Enemy, Hurricane, Three 6 Mafia, some Lil' John and Wu Tang. Never been a huge fan of Snoop's music but the song "Vato" with B-Real is pretty cool. Don't know much underground shit in this genre...too consumed with discovering all the new rock/metal/doom bands...but do enjoy a fat, gangsta groove once in a while. I'm so ghetto.

Post subject:  Re: Rap/Hip-Hop for SR/Doom fans?

Yes We Can't Be Stopped is definitely on my top 10 hip hop albums!

That album cover makes most death metal album art seem obviously cartoony with it's realism. Bushwick Bill really did shoot his eye out! Throw a church burning black metaller in the middle of a really bad neighborhood, and see how they cope lol. On some level,Geto Boys are way better than NWA. Scarface is a heavy metal fan in real life also.

Luniz kickass... Call me weird but I actually do like me some Rick Ro$$ as far as the newer cats are concerned. This beat is sick and the bass is so fat...

Plus Rick Ro$$ smokes a lot of weed and some of his rhymes are funny. I'm thinking about getting Teflon Don soon on CD. I also recommend Skyzoo and Keith Murray.
