Started a new job lately working for a local radio station near my house called Radio Valencia, 89.7 on the FM dial here in the SF Bay Area. They were very impressed with my ideas so much they're letting me host my very own show! Not just some show on the internet either, this is real radio. My show is on every Saturday morning from 4-6 am. Trying to get it extended to 3 hours so it will be 4-7 am soon. My show is called LAVA LAMPS & 8-TRACK THEATRE .... http://radiovalencia.fm/shows/ I play mostly homemade mixtapes I've made of obscure heavy 70's psych and B-movie horror trailers. Mixtapes made on an old 70's Marantz tape deck. Also playing some of my rare 8-tracks and vintage videogame sounds from my videogame collection. Here's the podcast of my first show that aired this morning at around 4:20 am on 4/20... http://podcasts.radiovalencia.fm/lava_l ... 0.0400.mp3 My show really starts after the last DJ plays BOC and the weird new age waterfall sounds. The ending got cut out cos I started a little late. Had to figure out the studio equipment and was a little buzzed off vodka,but for my first time guess it isn't bad. Next week's show will be much tighter as I am more confident what to do. I really like hearing my voice on the air lol, it's really weird to hear your own voice on the radio. Blue Phantom - Diodo (1971) Blue Phantom recorded an album in '71 called Distortions, check it out. Very heavy stuff. I play only all obscure 70's psych and maybe in a rare occasion some rare NWOBHM from the early 80's. Next show's gonna be better. |

Made it through my second show early this morning. Also got around to editing my official podcast. Blue Phantom...yeah, I remember them. Italian "spaghetti psych" band, if I recall correctly. Instrumental psych, soundtrack type stuff at times. Glad your show is going well, this is pretty awesome! Edit: If you dig Blue Phantom, check out Braen's Machine. Same vein of Italian psych. |

Ohh hi Jor El!!!! :) I miss you! Anyways just wanted to say I did play my Captain Beyond 8-track towards the end of my last show. In case anyone was wondering how that album sounds like on 8-track tape, there it is. There's that distinct sound of when the 8-track player switches the song into the next program, the song fades in and out. I even played my Casio SK-1 sampler keyboard live on the air at the end. |

Just made it through my 10th show this morning. I have to share cos I'm really proud of this one. I played my Atomic Rooster 8-track as well as some others. Really lovin' how my voice sounds on the air lately. Just listened to the 10th show. I hadn't heard any of your radio stuff before but i thought it was good. Very eclectic and i liked all the film samples and odd video game noise-scape interludes that segue into or between songs. The songs too of course! Mind you i even liked the opening "tuning the radio" intro also. What can i say i must be a weirdo! Listening to this, (and Scott Kelly's sporadic online radio efforts) really made me wish i had my own radio show. It made me ponder over which songs i would choose or how i might approach such an endeavor. It must be loads of fun. Anyway keep up the good work creative lady! |

You listened to all those in their entirety? thanks.... The only episode I don't like is episode 3 cos I was having some sound issues in the studio that morning. My shows lately have been close to 4 hours long each. The fourth episode is the shortest one though as it's only an hour or so. Anyways right on y'all. ;D I haven't heard Nautilus yet but sounds interesting. I wasn't aware Scott Kelly had his own show either. |
