Attended a vertical tasting of the last three vintages of Red Hill Brewery's Bohemian Pilsner. The star of the night... rare breed pig on the spit.

Went to Amersfoort again yesterday. There's a (almost) 400-year-old brewery there. Went there last year and had some great beers, but they had one yesterday they didn't have last year. They said it was a bit like a Weizen (after I tasted it), but it was nothing like it at all (if you ask me), it was a bit sour, cloudy like a Weizen alright, but nothing like it. I loved it. I'm going back next week, with a lighter back pack.

Their labels are nothing specials, so I'm not taking a picture.

Checked out the Yard House that just opened in Denver last night. The amount of taps they have is impressive and the quality of selection just as much. Tried St Bernardus Abt 12, Russinan River's Damnation, Rogue's Hazelnut Brown, and Left Hand's Milk Stout on Nitro tap. All good but that Damnation didn't really hold up against the others, imo. It was good, for sure, but the others were just better.

Adam,
Haven't been myself, but have heard the servers don't tend to know much of anything about the beer. Hope that changes.

Had some Russian River Redemption last night. Nothing fancy, just a beautifully made Belgian Blonde. Love that beer.

Also had Mountain Sun Onslaught (big IPA), Moylan's Wet-Hopped Hopsicle and New Belgium La Folie (Flemish Brown - Sour).

Might bust into a bottle of St. Martin's Winter Ale tonight.

Probably very true. But I haven't been to many places where the servers/bartenders have the beer knowledge that you have so I didn't go in with much expectations in that regard. I checked out their beer list prior to going and then checked out the reviews on beers of interest over at beeradvocate.com, so I didn't have a need to test their knowledge out.

Overall, they have a nice selection and its all on tap. Food isn't terrible, it isn't good. I'd have preferred a more casual environment than what they got going and prices are expensive, I'd only ever go back during their happy hour, but the beer selection makes it a decent enough spot.

It still has nothing on Falling Rock.

BTW, SL, What's the 411 on the Cheeky Monk?

One of these days I'll hit the Yard House and, also, probably during happy hour.

Cheeky Monk:
Go at lunch time - half off draft beer. They generally have a great selection of Belgians on tap and some very good bottles as well. Fare is Belgian. It's alright. I've had some pretty good food there and some okay food. Good fries, and I hardly ever eat fries.
It's definitely a worthy stop, but if you're there in the evening it can get very expensive very quickly. $8-12 drafts are the norm, so the lunchtime deal is good.

Surprisingly...no. Beer is full of carbs. Carbs are bad for diabetics.

its all about the complex sugars..

sugar is poison but you cant get away from it..im hoping i can tolerate a high beer consumption rate since i dont touch soda pop of any kind..

^^ Same here Mortlock. Maybe I should stay off the licorice too. Don't eat sweets that much, but when I have a bag of licorice I have to watch out I don't eat the entire bag in one go.

As for the diabetes: I just read something about Jerusalem Artichoke. It has a sugar in it that doesn't need insulin to digest it. If you can stand the smell/taste of them, they're apparently good for diabetes.

Yard House for Happy Hour is a good deal. The most expensive beer during HH will be $4.75 for a Belgium and pizza's and a bunch of their appetizers are all half off.

Good to know about the Cheeky Monk. I'm gonna try to hit it up in the next week or so but that probably wont happen.

Currently drinking Left Hand's Milk Stout. Still loving this beer, can't get enough of it.

I'm jealous. I'd love to try that Palm. I'm lucky that my local stocks up on the regular kind.

Finally hit up that Duvel triple last night along with some Zywiec and a Ayinger lager. The triple was a little stronger than I was looking for, too hoppy (get what you pay for), but still not bad.

okay, can be done. I bought the bottles I'm drinking now only yesterday so, stocks aren't gone yet in all stores.

How beer has even more ppl-uniting power than music.

Cheers.

Anyone know how does Ska Breweries Milk Stout compare to Left Hand's? This is probably more catered to the CO crowd than national...

How about Rogue's Shakespeare Oatmeal stout vs Samual Smith's? Never had either here but just picked up a bomber of Rogue's.

Just cracked.

My intro to oatmeal stouts. More bitter and carbonated than I actually expected. Reading some taste profiles of it and comparing it to Samuel Smith's Oatmeal stout and they seem to read like 2 pretty different beers. I think I might have chosen the wrong one as my intro to the style. I think this one is okay but I won't rush out to get it again anytime soon.

*update* Overall I liked this but I just wish it wasn't so carbonated.

Tried some of Breckenridge Breweries Oatmeal Stout the other night at Cherry Cricket and really liked it. A lot more than I expected and a lot more than Rogues. The two tasted like different styles almost as I never got that oatmealish like finish to Rogues like it did with Brecks.
