Oh, and on the beer board at Comrade they had any upcoming tapping of Hopchops IIPA. I don't remember the date now, but think it was this upcoming weekend.

Yeah, the city has changed a lot and more is coming.
Cannonball Creek is well worth a visit. Fermaentra down in DU area is good too.

I'll keep an eye out for Hop Chops, yum.

I love craft beers as much as the next guy, but I was recently told that my bottle of Side Project Derivation [a fair-to-middling stout] could go for $500 online. I hope that isn't true. If so, people are out of their goddamn minds.

On a more positive note, I got to visit Surly and Dangerous Man during a recent trip to Minnesota. Surly has one of the best facilities I've ever visited, and I did my best to drink all of their Todd the Axe Man.

Fermaentra is within walking distance. I will definitely have to check it out.

Cuvee des Trolls

Insane cloud city foam head that laces nicely until the last sip. Big banana yeast nose and doughy pale Belgian mouthfeel. Really great summer big gun.

Image

St. Stefanus (yes, basically the St. Augustijn brewery) Grand Cru.
Way too phenolic and astringent (9% abv). Weakening gas vacuum out the nose like a hard liquor.

Hit up Fermaentra this weekend and enjoyed their blond IPA and robust porter. Also hit up Platt Park Brewing, who impressed me as well. Their vanilla cream ale on nitro was definitely the highlight but also enjoyed their Phaded Pale Ale and Coffee Porter.

I find it amazing how Denver can have so many quality breweries while a city like Nashville can't produce more than one (and that is being kind to Yazoo, who is the New Belgium of that area....capable of producing a few great beers but everything else being boring and unispiring).

There's still a bunch of mediocre beer being made here in Colorado. BUT it is nice to see breweries improving and stepping up their game.

I've heard good things about Platt Park and definitely like what Beryl's is doing. We need more great breweries...heck, everyone does.

One of the best beers on the east coast.
12 different wild yeast strains blended with lactobacillus and aged in a "fermentorium."
Perfectly carbonated honeysuckle sour crisp beer that has absolutely no hint of pepper or spices.

Doesn't seem so 'wild' when they've been isolated and then specifically blended, and isn't that a bit overkill?

Got two buckets of damson wine in the making - seeded one with a white wine yeast and it's bubbling away happily, doing the other old style and hoping the native yeast does its stuff. Not going strong yet although there is a bit of fizz on the top, bit anxious about spoilage but it was more or less free (50p for sugar).

Getting geared up for cider season but I'll have to scrump this year as there's bog all on my tree. I notice a lot of hop poles sprung up at our allotments, wonder what people are brewing...

As it turns out, the dude has a PhD in fermentation science. In fact, I think he and his wife are both microbiologists. They had their honeymoon in Belgium just so they could explore the process, perfected by the Belgians, of beer fermentation.

New brewery opened up a town away from me.
Never had an all wet-hopped ale before. I don't even know that you could classify it as a "pale" ale. Everything is subtle and understated, very good.

Hey Adam,
Comrade Superpower is the best IPA from Colorado, no question. All the beer they make is good and their IIPA is stunning. I think they will have that out again around GABF. We were drinking it side by side with Pliny The Younger and we thought either one was a solid choice.

Had the Comrade IIPA, Hop Chops, with dinner tonight. Definitely really good but I do prefer Superpower to it, though I generally prefer IPA's to IIPA's.

I also got to hit up Cannonball Creek earlier today, after a hike up in Golden. Tried their Project Alpha #4, which was fantastic. I don't love Mosaic hops, I like them I guess but I generally never find myself needing seconds of IPA's brewed with them, and PA #4 was the first beer which featured those hops that I loved and finished wanting more.

Wet Hop SuperPower, aka Superdamp, from Comrade Brewing. As good as I hoped it would be. The nose on it is incredible.

Edit: Is there a way to resize images?

^ I know. Damn iPhone posts ridiculously large images.

Can't wait to get home and try this one.
I just purchased this at the farmers market and spoke with the brewmaster. Apparently this is a Saison table beer brewed w/ brett yeast and aged in oak barrels. It's a one-of brew only.

Best IPA made in VT, IMHO. Holy smokes was it good. It was one of those rare dealios where I was truly sad when I ran out of cans.

Go figure...GABF week in Denver, best beer week of the year with all the out of distribution breweries bringing special bottles and kegs to town and local stores also releasing special bottles of stuff that they had been storing for this occasion, and I can not take advantage. I was dry the first half of the week (as I was readying myself for a couple important job interviews), out of town for a couple days mid to end of the week, and now have family in town to host. Timing, timing, timing.

...on the bright side of things, it did work out and I got a couple job offers, one for a position in Miami and another for a position in Albuquerque. I decided to go for the position in Albuquerque (it was the better of the two positions), so it looks like I will be enjoying some La Cumbre and Marble on a regular basis now.

Whelp. Obviously, "Craft Brewing" has gone NUCLEAR based on that winner's list. Matter of time. Quality sells itself. No wonder the macro majors are shitting themselves. Congrats to those who placed. I don't even recognize half of them.

Thanks, Paul.

Looks like I am going to have hit up Bosque Brewing. Hopefully they will have that wet hopped Acequia IPA on tap. If that one can win gold and relegate Comrade's wet hop Superpower to Silver, it must be awesome.

The past couple days I got to take advantage of some of the leftovers from GABF.

Was up in Fort Collins on Saturday night and stopped in Tap n Handle.....I could have sampled the entire menu. I ended up grabbing some Jack Abbey's Hoponius Union, Alpine's Nelson (which I understand is now available in Colorado, but my first time coming across it), and some Odell Oak Haven. Both Hoponius Union and Nelson have long been on my list of beers I have wanted to try, so glad I I finally had the opportunity. Both met my expectations. It was really hard to not continue ordering (would have loved a pour of the '14 Firestone Walker Parabola or Avery Tweak). Then last night hit up Freshcraft for dinner and enjoyed some Surly Pentagram and Ska Anniversary Monumentale, both were great and I think I actually preferred the Ska. Can't go wrong with either.

I also grabbed a bottle of Casey Blending and Brewing's East Bank the other day, which given the hype I was excited to try. Got to admit, though, it didn't do much for me. It's a good beer, just not for me. I wouldn't bother with it again.

Despite the sunny weather what I really fancy the last few days is a strong porter or stout.
Moor's B-Moor is good, but too pricey.

I remember trying Foret Saison as per LC's request awhile back, so I decided to try their spiced Wit as well.
Super yeast (DuPont!) fruits and exotic spices that are more like a Wit/Seizoen hybrid. I would definitely drink this again. The bottle did champagne explode and I lost a lot of volume on the carpet ;( I managed to get it to the sink in time to fill up a glass or two.

Awesome, mang! Looks good. Heh. Yeah, i always try to open those fancy imported dinner bottles over the sink with a big Duvel goblet close at hand for the occ. whale spout. Those Euro yeast strains want out! I need to break down and put a few in the Winter cellar next payday. That looks like a great candidate that i've yet to try. Proper Wyrd Folk brew that!
It's a bit weepy seeing me Ale cellar empty for so long now. :(

I was hoping you'd guess the gatefold art ;) Beautiful Autumn weather leaves no excuse for bare beer cellars!
Cheers :)

I've become something of a Kent Falls Brewery groupie. I go to the farmers market every Saturday and pick up their newest effort. Can't wait to get home, spin some vinyl and partake of this Field Beer Saison Rye.

Can you believe it? A Saison brewed with mint!
