LAST - Truly last Friday. What do you call those guys? Post-grunge rock? Pretty damn good, with some really spectacular moments. I got to meet them all too and good fucking guys (talked a little with Hiro about great Soundgarden was with him in it), who just wanted to get out and play tunes they loved again. LAST - Windhand, Danava, Monolord tonight. Monolord was mono-tone plodding idiotic doom that I have no patience for anymore. They came from Sweden though! :_ Danava killed as always, but they mentioned that the crowd here was restrained as fuck, because everyone is used to seeing them kill as always. Windhand was good, but the Acid King show a couple months back exposes them now for what they really are; a complete Acid King rip-off. I love it that Acid King are selling out their shows across the country and getting their just rewards. NEXT = Ghost/Purson in Vegas on Saturday. |

Last - Yob and Black Cobra. Yob were, of course, great. Solace opened but I didn't make it in time, too bad for me because everyone I talked to said they killed it. Next - Public Image Ltd. on Wednesday, Zombi on Thursday. And that may be it for me for concerts for a while, especially since the Killing Joke/Soft Moon dream double bill happens when I'm out of town. |

Yob and Black Cobra would be a great night, last time I saw BC they were outstanding. Last - Trippy Wicked, Wizard Fight, Lacertilia. L were a good time, rocking beered-up psych something. WF had a strange stoner-sludge thing going where it was all played straight ahead metal on the beat, didn't quite click for me. TW have moments of brilliance but are still trading on the Hillbillly Moonshine cheese thathyre good enough to cut from the set. Next - High on Fire tomorrow. I'm feeling pretty mild mannered at the moment but hopefully Pike and co can shake that out of me. |

LAST - Housecore Horror Fest, so - EYEHATEGOD, Exodus, King Diamond, Negative Approach, Corrosion of Conformity, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Suffocation, Thor, Fang, YOB, ZOMBI, AUTOPSY, Claudio Simonetti live scoring 'Dawn of the Dead'. Thirteen bands, a lot of drinking and fun over three days; just about right for me. My crew actually crashed a private wedding party too, with a cheesy hair metal band doing 80's covers (Journey, Loverboy), so I guess fourteen bands in reality. Amazing fest. I'm still pinching myself. NEXT - Either a local showcase on Friday or Scott Kelly the weekend after this one. |

Last night - only about 30 people there for Spider Kitten, half of them in the bar. Disgraceful Bristol! They slayed, closed with a doom epic I didn't get a chance to ask them about. Groundhogs were class, ok so it's only Ken from the original line up but some solid players there. Prefigures Clutch, Fatso Jetson, punk, Floyd and any number of other things - diverse material heheh Next - no idea, seems sod all happening in Bristol in the near future. May head up to London for Palehorse or Dragged Into Sunlight in the new year. |

Seen clutch last Dec 30 in Cleveland, this Dec 30 in Cleveland I'm seeing clutch, house of blues was too packed last time, this time at the Agora. Long time since seeing clutch there, seen them there a few times. |

LAST - Billy Gibbons & the BFG's, Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown last night at Revolution Hall. Billy is playing with two organists and three percussionists. He played his new album that's very New Orleans inspired, a few blues covers, Ten Foot Pole (off El Loco!), Thunderbird (Fandango!) And La Grange! Closed with Zeppelin ' Whole Lotta Love, which was strange, but it gave both of his young female drummers a chance to show off their chops. Very thankful I saw this!!! NEXT - Dispirit, Wolvhammer, Atriarch next weekend at Panic Room. |

What was my last show, jesus*? I think maybe the AMREP Bash-15 last summer in Minneapolis, with Melvins, Le Butcherettes, Cows reunion... Next show pair of shows coming up within two days of each other - Courtney Barnett at First Ave, then two days later at First Ave also - Napalm Death, Melvins, and Melt Banana. That'll be a fun week. Both in April. *not counting local gigs I play with my own band |

LAST - The Dispirit show in mid-December. KILLER show! They're one of the top metal bands on the planet in my book. They played three songs (about 45-50 minutes) and then finished with Mercyful Fate's "Desecration of Souls"! NEXT - Either Federale on Friday or something else later this month. Really bummed that KILLING JOKE canceled their USA tour earlier this week. I was really looking forward to that show. |
