Last: I'm not sure actually, which doesn't speak to my show dedication lately, haha. It was either Converge/Torche or Cannibal Corpse/Misery Index.

Next: Madman Morgan (Rwake drummer playing guitar/vox in a thrash band, not bad), Jethro Skull, Black Pussy, The STD's tonight

Down the Line A Ways: Orange Goblin, Clutch on March 11, Rwake on Feb 16th, plus a ton of currently-unknown badassery on its way to/from SXSW

What's the consensus on Graveyard's live show?..have heard mixed reviews.

The show I am seeing on this tour is next week but I have seen them live four times on three prior tours which is a lot for an American I reckon. Band kills live, the shows I've seen have been over the top great. Hard to imagine what someone would dislike about it but everybody hates everything now so guess I'm not shocked. Graveyard is one of the best live bands in the world as far as I am concerned.

Gracias...they're rolling thru my area in early Feb., and I'm leaning toward going...the fact that you know your stuff and have seen them multiple times is a solid stamp of approval.

Tonight- Goin' to see Legs McNeil do a reading at the tex-mex cantina then roll over to see some noise at the Ethiopian restaurant.

Taddy Porter's coming through this week, will probably check them out.

Last- Been a while, Probably Stubb @ Black Heart before Christmas

Next: Grifter, Gurt and loads of others in a tiny pub in Brixton on Saturday night. Straight after England V Scotland at Twickenham. May be messy.

Maybe Next next: High on Fire at Islington . Dreadful venue and never been massively into HoF so still undecided. All you US sorts talk a good game about HoF though.

Definite Next next next: Sungrazer, The Machine, Stubb @ Borderline Feb 16th. Cannot wait, promises to be the gig of the year!

Distant:

Serpent Venom @ Unicorn
Honky + Desert Storm @ Black Heart
Elder @ Black Heart
Desertfest

High on Fire is in top form these days.

LAST- Taddy Porter / Fillegar - a couple of fairly straight-up rock acts that appear to be trying to be radio acts. Taddy Porter has 'song placement' in HBO, MLB etc. and did shows opening for Slash. The local radio station gave away free tickets, the doorman showed me a list of seven winners and only one showed up for the show. Total of 11 paying customers, so not sure if the marketing is doing it's job. Boths bands were harmlessly generic but had kind of an uncool vibe. Conclusion- poser bands not worthy of my interest.

NEXT- Local showcase tomorrow with three newer Richmond bands- Into The Black is three of the four dudes from Lord By Fire doing a more rock-oriented, Crazy Horse-type sound. Also Prisoner which features Pete from Balaclava who are sort of inactive at the moment. Lastly Men's Room with former members of Bodycop and Human Smoke.

LAST - YOB, Rolling Through the Universe, Usnea last Saturday. Holy fuck, YOB killed it. They opened the show playing the whole 'Catharsis' album and then managed to shoehorn two more in. Man, it was great hearing that stuff again. Show of the year, one month in! :)

NEXT - OM, Sir Richard Bishop. Stoked as I guess this version of OM has from all reports really gotten their legs under them. The last time I saw them was a real bummer compared to the earliest (Chris Hakius) versions I saw of the band. This show is Saturday night.

NEXT NEXT - the ENSLAVED, Pallbearer, Royal Thunder package the next night.

Waiting for the doors to open for a Brad gig. Think theres an r'n'b gig in another hall as there's a mix of beardy 30-somethings in Pearl Jam shirts and Bruno Mars wannabes in the bar.

Just bought a ticket for Mudhoney/Meat puppets.

Last - All dayer at the Windmill Brixton a couple of weeks ago. Came straight from the rugby so was late, and pissed. First up were Sea Bastard who were sludgey and slow. I like them, the missus does not .
Then Groan, who were painful. Loads of treble, lots of screeching. Not a fan. Pete and Chris from Trippy Wicked/ Stubb were playing but to no avail. Not good.
I'd gone mainly to see Grifter, and they do not disappoint. Played Good Day for Bad News, Fairies Wear Boots, Hotpocket and generally rocked the fuck out. I staggered home and fell asleep watching football.

Next Sungrazer/ The Machine / Stubb tomorrow night at Borderline. really excited about this- lineup promises one of the gigs of the year.

Didn't fit with their touring commitments or something.

I'll be going to that too, somehow!

Last was HoF, should have been that Sungrazer/Machine gig but had an axe accident and missed it.

Next is an alldayer - Big Naturals, Hark, Spider Kitten and others. Should be a good day.

Pretty sure he'll make it.

Last: As expected the gig on Saturday was superb.

Stubb rocked as they always tend to. Pretty much the traditional setlist, ie one they've been playing a year or so now. Road, Soul Mover, Scale the Mountain and Galloping Horses all great as normal. New song Under A Spell was fun. Dual vocals between Jack and Pete give the band a great harmonic touch. Jack's riffs are great. Westy seems to no longer drum for them, different drummer than before Christmas but he did fine. Looked shattered by the end though! Think the crowd thinned out a bit after the set which goes to show the pull Stubb now have and the value of putting good local support on rather than random pay on full tour supports.

Sungrazer are groovy groovy groovy. Bit of an arrogant (Dutch?) stage presence but they're good enough to get away with it. Excellent bass sound. Played Mirador, Sea, Soma, If, Common Believer and I think Diplo off the new one. Best fuzzy band around at the moment.

The Machine had a hard act to follow but managed it and more. Faster and rockier than Sungrazer and a more entertaining stage presence. Sound was excellent and quality of the playing unblemished. Closed the night with Isabella/ Machine Gun which was awesome. Top night in a good venue.

Nothing lined up for a while now, but then it goes busy in the leadup to desertfest/ roadburn bands touring.
