VERY LONG WEEKEND-

THURS- JEFF the Brotherhood / Diarrhea Planet
JEFF got pretty heavy over a Warner Bros. imposed hiatus, band is better than ever. My buddy said some of their stuff was 'straight up Kyuss worship'. They covered Rush. Diarrhea Planet opened and had the bigger crowd

FRI- Gas Chamber
House show with pretty killer Buffalo post-powerviolence band with prog touches on Iron Lung Records

SAT- Elder
Elder played at one of the oddest locations I've been to in a while, a Princeton University members only 'eating club' in a huge on-campus mansion, booked by one guy who liked them. Hordes of mature, well-dressed Princeton students rolling through into the wee hours, beer-soaked floors, Elder played until 3:15 and, naturally, ruled

SUN- Devo
Devo played a free short and sweet essentials set at the CBGB Festival in Times Square on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Band was in great form. Booji Boy told the story of Devo coming to play CBGB and being picked up after the show and taken to the Factory by Andy Warhol.

MON- King Diamond
Great, packed King Diamond show at the luxurious Fillmore in Silver Spring MD. Big variety of metalheads getting off, many who travelled distances to the show. There was a busload of over 50 dudes from Baltimore there. Quite a scene, band sounded cool and King was killing it.

NEXT- tonight it continues: Roman Gabriel Todd and The Nervous Ticks

Graves at sea put a big nihilistic smile on my face earlier this year

LAST - Alan Howarth a couple of weeks ago. He was John Carpenter's musical collaborator from around 'Escape from New York' to 'They Live!', so he played all the main titles to that stuff and did a Q&A for the audience. He stuck around afterwards and signed albums/posters/etc. Very nice guy and a killer evening (Halloween III was also screened in 35 mm) all around.

NEXT - Midnight, Violation Wound, Lebenden Toten, Thrones on Saturday.

Probably won't waste any time hitting the bar at the pentagram radio moscow show in Pittsburgh next Tuesday. Clutch, lionize late December Cleveland. Maybe stay at a $300 hotel around the block. Right near casino and "club" so I don't get in more guilty trouble than I'm forewarning.

Last night - Low Desert Punk. Jams and groove for miles. Not sure if they adjusts sound or it was just me moving to a different spot but the kick drum was eating up all the bass room for the first few sondes which became very draining. Wasn't in the Ron mood ate all but put a smile on my face.

Next - Dragged Into Sunlight, Bong, 11paranoias... Going to be heaaaaavy

I guess Lazer/Wulf had such a good time playing a Richmond house show last night, they are coming back from Brooklyn to play another one here tomorrow! It's cool when an out-of-town band feels the love we have to share...

Last - The Life & Times and Lo-Pan (2 different shows, same night in Boston. Both RULED)

Tomorrow Night - smells like college indie rock....Pile/Speedy Ortiz/Ex Hex at Great Scott in Allston, MA. If nothing else, I'll be baked and sipping a couple drinks in smells like college town probably eating a decent bar meal independent of my wife and kids for the night. That's a big deal.

Red, how was that Lesbian show? Would love to see these guys live some day. I realize you've seen them multiple times, but how are they sounding now?

I've heard people complain that they're becoming YOB, because they're incorporating a lot more of the doom/heavy in their sound, but they're still totally killing it and play top knotch prog metal. They're lead guitarist always fucking kills it. So much fun.

EHG were great, but the new songs don't have the OOOMPH of the older stuff. Still a good show overall. They love Seattle. It ain't the same without Joey, but that pretty much goes without saying.

NEXT - KING DIAMOND on Saturday!

Shock!

Last: ghold, necro deathmort, 11paranoias, dragged into sunlight. Bong were due to play but couldn't make it, I'm fated never to see them. Was a bit ill, in a grump and tired, and on my own. Perfect for an evening of bleak and downer music, musing on the pains of this disintegrating and malfunctioning lump of flesh and inadequacies of the mind.

Next: seems to be bugger all happening at the moment, probably Cosmic Dead in London in a few weeks.
