Alright folks, haven't been round these parts for a while. Anyone on here doing the Tilburg Pilgrimage this year? Or have all the Ingerlish (and Jem) decided to plump for the meat and potatoes option of Desertfest??

No Roadburn or Dunajam for me this year. I do the Desertfest in Berlin and maybe Kildemose in Denmark in August.

Won''t be at desertfest, although there is an outside chance I'm make an unscheduled appearance there. Shame to miss out on it in a way but it'll be in the rock diary for next year!

I will be at Roadburn, it's Mr defyall's stag adventure so will be there in force, with a fair few 013 virgins. We may well be embarrassing Englanders, or possibly just trailing a load of people on the verge of a whitey heheheh

I've been to Roadburn for the last 5 years in a row. Decided not to go this year. I'd love to see the double Voivod set again, but overall I'm not that bothered.

Maiden and Scorpions in the US this summer more than makes up for it.

did you say the Scorpions are doing the US this summer? I should have me some cash, for once going out, leaving the house, I'll go solo, I don't care, maybe meet up with a cleveland friend but if not I aint shy. it's the best way I think, how I rolled for years.

but yeah, Desertfest is right up my alley, all my favorite new bands for the past few years and some good classics. it's almost like an Emissions, but almost. I'd mix in more heavy bands, and undeniable bands, and bands not easily classified as desert. it seems like it's all the bands that are in now, though, but nothing I'm not familiar with like maybe they just took the more popular European tours and bunched them all together. no new discoveries, no interesting pieces of the puzzle.

eh, I'm living in the past, bands that smoked most of the ones in that lineup. evolution did get a little weaker. it's nothing I'd absolutely have to attend, but Emissions was talked about 6 months prior and 3 months after every year it happened, nothing but discussions on it. shame on those who didn't make it. it was the one time of year I wasn't from this town, I didn't own the bar, so much fun and adventurous.

Missing Roadburn this year, we're touring at the same time so I'll be in Germany somewhere

At the risk of sounding stupid, Roadburn just wasn't the same any more once they instated the indoor smoking ban.

Although I am in favor of smoking bans in general rock shows should be excluded - if only for not having to smell all the body odors.

Indeed. last Roadburn I was at by day three the smell in the main room was pretty rank what with half the attendees camping.

And I agree with you in that smoking at shows should be allowed but banning it elsewhere is fine.

at least here they don't (or can't) enforce the ban at shows.

I'll be at Desertfest in London then Roadburn, then I gotta go back to work.

In between the two, my plan is to hit Paris for a night and drunk-blog about it and then head to Germany, either Munich or Berlin for a day. Anyone know of a killer record store in either that could persuade me to one or the other city? I've been to Berlin before, and I remember there were a couple good ones.

Yes:

Four of us from Northern Ireland are hitting 4 of the East Coast Maiden dates. I'm staying for 3 weeks and the Scorps dates fall perfect for me. I didn't think I'd get to see them again, so I'm chuffed as fuck. Tesla supporting too.

A mate of mine from Belfast is going to Boltfest then to France for Scorpions and on to Roadburn. A total metalhead leg-end.

Im hoping for some full in detail Roadburn reviews!! we decided not to go this year as we simply could not afford tickets when they went on sale, it was for a good reason, we were saving for awesome engagement rings :)

turns out our year is looking even better anyway!

Desertfest (+ Boltfest on the 7th, Autopsy!)
ATP (Sleep, Slayer, Melvs, Yob)
Hellfest
Nuclear War Now (horrible stuff that John loves ;)

I will seriously miss Roadburn though, especially the shrooms and stage visuals, will we be seein you around at anything else Slomes?

Never had the courage to go shrooming at Rburn, although I've often thought it could be a nice way to start a sunny day on the campsite, so long as you remembered to get the bus into town in time for the music. Make the most of the afterglow :-)

The venues always seemed a bit full and oppressive for mushrooms, but with enough good feeling around I guess it might go smooth.
Wouldn't want to miss 'the set of the year' due to having my head stuck in hyperspace I suppose.

Eh, I'm not going to Roadburn again this year either but I've got a cunning plan to try and get me to the Desertfest, so I'll be seeing you there Jem & John, I hope. *crosses fingers*

MANY CONGRATS on your engagement! It's about time you made an honest man of him.

Ah I see, may just give it a try...
If you hear of a crazy naked screaming man at Roadburn this year... it's probably a friend of mine heheheh.
Totally contrary to my approach to psychedelics which is more - gobble loads and don't redose!

The schedules have now been released: http://www.roadburn.com/wp-content/uplo ... le2012.pdf

Thankfully, pretty clash-free for me. This is the sixth Roadburn for me and the missus. With Desertfest as well, I reckon we're gonna be in some state by the end of that week. Can't wait.

Sheeeee-it, ending on Black Cobra is going to be Tuff!

More gaps in my interest than I remember from previous, could be that Rb is slowly migrating away from my kind of stuff.

Still going to be a storming weekend-and-a-bit mind.

So had a plan...

Thursday I reckon goes like this:
Virus/Horisont
Saturnalia Temple
Om
(chips)
Ancestors
Spiders/Black Tusk
Sigiriya
back to campsite

Friday:
Farflung
Kong or dinner and a beer
Conan
Yob
Black Breath or a bit of a breather
Gnod/Dopethrone
Celeste
back to campsite or afterparty in the Patronaat

Saturday:
bit of pool in the afternoon?
Church of Misery
chips
Wounded Kings
the Obsessed/Mars Red Sky
Sleep
three-way clash... Heavy Jam, Jucifer and Bongripper, but then they're on at the Afterburner.
campsite smoke-up

Sunday:
Doomjazz/Electric Orange, I'm open to suggestion, could even try to catch a bit of both
Internal Void
Bongripper
Yob
bit of Dragged Into Sunlight?
Fleshpress?
Gets a bit tricky there with the overlaps, I think I'd like to see some of Coroner, but my allegiance is always going to be with the sludge!
Black Cobra/Bong

A lady friend is going. If you meet the Chilean girl, treat her right. And by right, I mean buy her tons of beer =)

I... well, maybe I'll be there next year.
