Dylan, Young, old Metallica, YOB, Floyd, and "Sympathy for the Devil." I am also digging a lot of the lyrics on the new Elder record.

"Piece Of Crap", Neil Young. Because it's true of the shit that breaks down these days.

Pass me the bottle or pass me the bowl
Nobody's going to put up a fight
Turn up the music as loud as you can
Turn it up I want to hear it again

Journey "Of A Lifetime"

The mist is slowly lifting
The sound of life misplaced your mind
You're sitting, spellbound thru out time
I hope that you remember what you find
Singin' more of a lifetime

You put it down-all that I'm thinking
But take a long and distant search, when all is right
You take for granted
You can't look down but you're no worse.
Singin' more of a lifetime

The countless visions that are drifting
The silver dreams you hate to lose.
There's no harm. we've all been waiting.
Well keep your faith. do what you choose.
Singin' more of a lifetime

Pink Floyd - Money

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team

Money, get back
I'm all right Jack keep your hands off of my stack
Money, it's a hit
Don't give me that do goody good bullshit
I'm in the high-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet

Money, it's a crime
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a raise it's no surprise
That they're giving none away
Away, away, way
(Away, away, away, away)

Bob Dylan for sure. That man was a poet who thought he was a singer, while Jim Morrison was a singer who thought he was a poet. That's what I always say....

Neil Young, absolutely.

Pink Floyd, yeah, I love Roger Waters' lyrics.

In my teens I really liked Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Fugazi, Quicksand, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Soundgarden lyrics.

I like Wino's lyrics, and Matt Pike's with High On Fire. Torche/Floor lyrics too.

I tend to gravitate towards stuff with more emotional content these days though, The National, Sharon Van Etten, that kinda stuff....

Edit: Oh, I really like Fleet Fox's and Father John Misty's lyrics too, those are great and inspiring.

Excellent nods to Geto Boys, Neil Fallon and The Rods! Gotta break out those Rods albums!
Here's a few tidbits that always make me smile:

"Funeral held for the depression of man
Holds the key to his own death
Entering a tomb of a corpse yet conceived
Tighten the tourniquet around your neck
Sifting away the debris of hated life
Cold touch of death begins to chill your spine
Seeking life beyond your perishment
Repeating words echoing through your mind"

and...

"I was lyin' in a burnt out basement
With the full moon in my eye
I was hopin' for a replacement
When the sun burst through the sky
There was a band playin' in my head
And I felt like getting high
Thinkin' about what a friend had said, I was hopin' it was a lie
Well, I dreamed I saw the silver spaceships flyin'
In the yellow haze of the sun
There were children cryin' and colors flyin'
All around the chosen ones
All in a dream, all in a dream the loadin' had begun
We were flyin' mother nature's silver seed to a new home in the sun"

and any of Buzzo's fucked up lyrics...

"I'm sin done in water
You might be over hill.
He's somebody's daughter
As far as Liz well knows.
Send me a black one
Other than a big sun
Open with a castrate
A mystery mind.
He sits her with father
We seem so in a two.
Open up a CAT scan
White leather free land
Wishy little be scar
Half-made mind.
Elvis had a daughter
Not half-boned siksura.
Heavy Betty big bone
Little kitty fig bomb
I'm no feet less
Give me one" - WTF?

and, of course... "Daddy? Yes, Son? What does regret mean? Well, son... a funny thing about regret is; that it's better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done. And btw, if you see your mom this weekend, would you be sure to tell her...SATAN! SATAN! SATAN!"

Come to think, I really love and enjoy Bob Daisley's lyrics alot written for Ozzy.

Even more awesome he is a good friend of mine now since he was on my radio show. Wants to hangout and get high with me over at one of the members of Night Ranger's studio in the Bay Area. He wrote me an email back last night after i told him how much I love his lyrics on the first five Ozzy solo records.

Behind a burning red fog
The great mind swims in confusion
It's blood ferments in anger
Honor and wisdom will cower

Your river's flow is damned all to hell
Your river's flow is damned all to hell

Drifting in a current to stagnate
Encircle the vision of rust

Your river's flow is damned all to hell
Your river's flow is damned all to hell

Strong hearts soar through blindness
Tearing the fog, tearing the eyes to clarity
To a place where truth is seen

Your shell is hollow
Your shell is hollow, so am I
The rest will follow
The rest will follow, so will I, so will I
